Creating POI files

I uploaded a POI file for prairie school architecture sites in Iowa about 7:30 Sunday evening. At first it was available, but now it has disappeared from the listings. In the text I gave the website from whence the data was derived.

I've been playing with POI's and am capable of producing basic POI's without any problem. Now I have put together a POI for Bass_Pro_Shop and have included a .jpg file for "Image" along with the .bmp file for the custom icon and an mp3 file for the voice alert. These are all included in the same folder as the .gpx file.

I downloaded the GPX file for Canadian Tire locations (thanks for creating it) but the text "Canadian Tire" is too long in my NUVI 260W, so I chagned it to "CT" and now the city name shows up in the list so I have a better idea of the loaction before choosing.

I'm doing well adding poi's except for sounds and icons for reststops. I'm clueless on what to download for reststops. I have a Mac and a Nuvi 680. Another question how many poi's can you download to a gps.

Kudos to turboccc for the Extra_POI_Editor, I really love the features.

One of the nicest features I have found is the ability to add additional fields to a CSV file and have Extra_POI_Editor pick up these fields and populate additional GPX fields. (I know "GPX field" is probably technically incorrect, but most would get what I'm trying to ssay).

I am using a Colorado GPSr. I had a number of POI files that all had a different icon. I had to reload them and now no icon shows up. The POI is only a dot. What am I doing wrong?

Here are my steps if that helps.

1. Create files on my computer with the POI and an icon

2. Using POI loader load file onto drive in the Colorado

3. Change name of file in Colorado

Can someone tell me how to make text linkable in a post?

What I want it to look like is:

• Link to someplace

But, when you click on it, it takes to to the hidden link. I know how to do it on a web page, but that won't work here.

Can't find a thing in the FAQ section.

Which model of GPS is capable of displaying non-english characters ?
I have seen some foreign models but not sure what encoding they use. Unicode or any other older codes

I have some data with mixed English and non-english characters. I would like to try it but not sure which software can do that with a GPS model that works.

Anyone try that before ?

This is going to sound like sour grapes so first I want to thank Miss POI and the contributers to this site. There are some really great POI files and helpful info here. Now my gripe.

I'm new to this so please excuse my newby question...When I attempt to upload a POI file, the 3rd? step on the POI Loader process asks you to choose the folder that contains the POI file. When I browse the options, my hard drives are not listed. The only options listed are my disk drives. I've verified that my remote hard drive is connected and functioning. How do I access it and my POI file?

I want to create some POIs by looking at Google Earth and using the coordinates found there to tag the POI. I then want to reverse geo-code the street address. I have used this site http://ashburnarcweb.esri.com/livesamples/v2/reversegeocodin... in the past.

Is there a POI for all the Macy's department stores?

I read of a great 'back roads' trip so I thought i would use Mapsource to create this custom route. I new the roads I wanted to take (but not familiar with them) so I used Mapsource to draw the route. To get Mapsource to 'stick' to the route I chose I had to use 'Via Points'.

I wrote an application that allows you to pull the Lat and Lon from Google Earth and add a name, and an address to make a POI file. If there is interest, and if I am allowed to upload it, I would be happy to share it. It really helped me with two of my custom POI files ("PittsburghPA", and "OhioUniversity")

Can some one show me how to Set the Proximity alert in " feet" when createing the POI in CSV format ?

I know with RedLight in the title the default distance in 1/4mile. Anyway to change this via the title as numbers in the title associate to speed.

Can I place distance in the title line, like 4500' for walmart that would be great but is it even possible.

Does anyone know how to convert waypoints to POIs in a batch?
I have collected several waypoints over the years on my handheld.
And would now like to have them as POIs on my Nuvi.
