Creating POI files

It sure would be nice if the POI files were sorted alphabetically. It would make finding a particular file easier. i.e. there are 48 files in the Radio - ham category and if I want to find a particular state it could begin with "A" and still be four or five pages deep.

I want to have a custom icon for my Jellystone Park Camp Resorts POI files that are posted here. I can save .bmp files, but they don't show up on my Garmin Street Pilot 2730. I was wondering if anybody could create a .bmp file and we can add it to the list here. Possibly something like the one below.

Probably old news to many of you, but I found gpsvisualizer.com, a POI conversion site.
This is an online app with every poi format to format conversion. Seemed very speedy and once the conversion is complete, the ov2 link was there to download the converted file for use in my TT510.

I'm trying the online GPS visualizer with the waffle house poi (csv) file.
Errors everytime I try to convert.
I've opened the file in a text editor to look for anything obvious...looks fine.
I must be doing something wrong, or I'm missing something really obvious.
All other POI files (all csv) converted fine.

System is
Intel Imac
Go 510

Am fairly new to this site. (Have posted 2 csv files). Does anyone know how or if you can convert TomTom (ov2) files to Garmin csv files? Thanks in advance.

another lets get organized tip.

If you have a new store location that you would like to see in a POI file, please send it to the original author of the file.

If you recreate the file and I upload it then we have two files, not only that but then the original author losses credit as the original author if I have to choose one file over the other.

I'm creating a custom POI file that I intend to upload when I get enough data into it. I want to format the comment display (for address and phone number) like this:

123 Main St
Anytown, ST 01234
123-555-1234

I downloaded a .bmp file this weekend and it worked great. I tried a coupple more and they didn't work. Where is the best place for me to go to read up on how to do this properly?

Also, I would like my custom POIs to only annunciate part of the text, not all of it. Does anybody know how to do that?

I own a Garmin Nuvi 360. I used mapsource to create my own POI the other night. I'm going from point A to point B(destination). I unchecked the proximity box and put in 0.5 mile for the proximity alert to sound. I used one of my mp3 music for the sound alert. The next day I tried it out and it worked!

I have a number of custom POI files in my Garmin StreetPilot 2730. In some cases I don't want or need the entire text annunciated. Is there a way to configure the file so that the voice will only annunciate part of the text?

Is there a way placing POI files on the SD Memory card and reading from there?

I am interested in making a Eddie Bauer store poi.
However I am not sure how to get the store info I need. How has others here obtained store location info?
Also, is any one else interested in a Eddie Bauer poi?

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I was curious if there is a way to create automatic alerts (similar to an upcoming red light traffic camera alert) but rather for a place such as Costco.

Trying to figure out how to convert the Offbeat Tourist Attractions into a format where I can have all the info that is in the original file.

I'm using PoiEdit, but I think it's ignoring the 3rd entry in the csv...

When creating a POI:

* If you use a carriage return to go to the next line within the comments section, they show up as little diamonds when you look at them under extras, Custom POIs. If you use the "|" character, no diamonds.

Has anyone been able to create a POI for the new Grand Canyon Skywalk attraction?

I want to mark all of my favorite coffee shops (and the yet to be favorite coffee shops) with something better than a fork and knife, which really doesn't represent my intention very well.

I'm thinking a coffee cup or something. Maybe with a transparent background (the Garmin magenta).

Can't find one, and I'm no artist. Anyone wanna try?

I've been browsing... but is there a location that gives the best way to create POI's?

I wanted to create a POI file for the Atlanta Bread Company, but it was not easy copying the info from their Website. Since their HQ is here in Atlanta (Go figure), I called and explained what I was looking for and why I wanted the info.

Thanks to everyone on this forum for their contributions. I finally got some cool POI's loaded into my new NUVI 350! Over the last few evenings I created an EXCEL workbook that helps to manage the POI's you accumulate. The workbook also automatically creates a csv formatted file in the 4-column format needed for the NUVI 350.
