Creating POI files

I am using POI Loader to download to my gps. Where do I put the icon files I would like to download. I don't know which file to put them in for the POI Loader to install them properly on my device. Also, where does the unit put them once they are on the device? Any ideas?? Thanks

I want to write a POI. I know the coordinates, and I know that I need to give the file name the proper extension. What program should I use? What is the extension for the file's name? My GPS is Garmin's Nuvi 260W. Thanks.

Okay, I am new at this but I really want to give this a try. I would like to create a POI file for the best playgrounds. When I say the best I mean way above the average playground. We have one close by that people drive over an hour to visit. They have zip lines and 40 foot slides. There is another in Virginia Beach at a park called Mount Trashmore that is amazing. It is absolutely huge.

Any hints? I saved a poi file as CSV in excel for iMac... When open the poi loader, then browse to find the file, it won't show as "highlited" so i can open and begin the install.. Am i saving it as proper csv file?

When I go to one of the websites like POI Factory from which custom POI's can be downloaded, is it possible to tell whether the available gpx files include phone numbers in the proper format for auto dialing? I would like to be able to use bluetooth auto dialing like I can with the regular POI's that came with my Garmin nuvi 780.

I have loaded the poi file and the icon file from this site (file names matched per intructed) I used POI Loader and transfered the poi's to my unit. Custom poi's show in menu but no icons show on my map. Help..... have I done something wrong??

I have copied a single ... from a post found here in How Do I Create a GPX File.

It has no header xml at all. Is some XML header info needed in addition to way point records. I changed nothing in the other post's file.

POI Loader says it is an invalid file.

Any info would be appreciated.

Could someone tell me how to save custom poi to a Nuvi 660 SD card. I can only figure out how to save them to the unit's memory so far.

I would like to see School zones,That would save me a lot of mola. They sneak up when you least expect them and theres always a cop with a radar gun.

Tried searching the boards, but haven't found anything -- feel free to point me in the right direction if this has already been answered.

Basically, I want to know if there is any easy way to edit .gpi's? POIEdit doesn't seem to be able to do anything to .gpi's unless I'm mistaken, and opening in notepad yields unreadable characters.

This is a report on my trials of using several of the various methods discussed on POI-Factory to get POIs into Mapsource. I wanted both the name and comments to show in Mapsource.

All of you river runners out there. I wonder if we could build a data base for scat machines. I am not sure where to go to find out their locations. Any suggestions?

Icons and POI files

I have a Garmin GPS c550 and I am trying to downliad the RedLight Camera software. I am not having much luck and would like to kno if someone could walk me thru it.

Has anyone installed this software on Vista??? I've got a new PC running Vista Home Premium. Tried to execute the downloaded .exe file and got a weird error (see below). Tried to email the owner from the his web site but mail was returned as underdeliverable.

I have a Garmin 260, how do I turn the POI's on?

When I create a POI with mapsource, save it as a gpx, load it with the poi loader, all goes well except for, anything I have in the comments comes up twice when I look at it on the GPS. Anyone know why this happens?

I want to create a POI that alerts to a speed zone on I-20 East, which I have managed to do. However, when I travel through the same area on I-20 WEST, the proximity alarm goes off.

Is there a way to make the POI recognize East vs. West on the interstate?
