Creating POI files

OK - here's the deal, obviously from my perspective -

I am unable to get my mp3 alert files to work for my custom POI's. Extensions are all good; file name is good; icons work; text alerts work; just not the audio alert. The audio alert I do get is a ping-ping, which I believe is a standard alert for approaching 'whatever'.

just wanted to know how to find the longitude,latitude for a school in my area, do i have to drive there to get it or is there another way to do this. thank you lucky

Hi, I am new with GPS and just got my Garmin Nuvi 260 last week.

Any suggestions on a software for creating POIs? I went throught some of the post and seems like there are so many to choose from.

UHAUL.cvs has just quotes in name field. I can easily change the file to include Uhaul in the name (3rd column), but I would like to this cleaned up for other users. Thanks.

I have been using www.poieditor.com to manually map-out and create POI files successfully. Does anyone know of a way to create POI files with lat/long from a list of street addresses?

I envision a process as: 1) get street address file, 2) copy into Excel spreadsheet, 3) export Excel into some (tbd) program, 4) export newly-populated CSV file back to PC, 5) uplaod to Garmin via POI_Loader.

I have been using Garmin's POI Loader very successfully over a lengthy period to load thousands of different custom points of interest from numerous files, up to as late as yesterday.

I'd like to request an update by Tarkus to the POI file for Jack in the Box.

I am trying to create a POI of all the Redbox DVD Locations. I have the data and created the records in a csv file. However, I get the following error when I try to load it using POI loader:

"There is a data format error on line 1 of file C:\Redbox DVD Rental.csv. The data earlier in this file will be written, but no more data can be read from this file.

POI Loader is not recognizing the.csv custom POI that I downloaded from this site. When I run POI Loader and browse to the location of the .csv file, it is grayed out and cannot be added.

I have read the FAQs and other posts that come close to answering my question but not exactly. I just got a nuvi 750 and loaded a blank 1 GB SD card in it. I stumbled (luckily) onto this site and found several great POI files. I downloaded POI Loader, learned about making several folders for all my POIs and eventually loaded a bunch of POI files onto my SD card.

Does any one knows all the GPX valid tags? Thanks

Fact: All of us know that the POI being submitted to this site use some automation to get the LONG/LAT. Sometimes this does not give an exact result.

Fact: Some people give feedback if their POI have something wrong.

Suggestion:

Can the POI lists that you create be imported into Mapquest. I do my summer cross country vacation planning in Mapquest and it doesn't help having the POIs in my GPS during the planning.

How can i convert Google Earth's MY saved places to poi's. Is this even possible. How can i Create a poi file. thank you

After reading all I could about how to add .bmp icons to POI files, I decided that none of the icons depicting Harley Davidson were 'glamorous' or 'eye-catching' enough. So, I took a .jpg file of the Harley Davidson logo and shrunk it down to the approximate size of the existing icon being used and then converted that to the Microsoft.bmp format.

I'm just curious what is the minimum data required to be in a POI file, is it just Lat/Long and one text field. Thanks for input.

I'm a newbie. How do you know if a file has Proximity Alerts? If it does have proximity alerts, do you need to install manually and set the distance or will automatic install set the proximity alerts.

POIs are still not showing up in Extras after installing with loader. I have tried installing to SD and Device, but they still do not show up. What gives?
