Creating POI files

Please forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere. I did a search for go button and more than 41 pages came up and of course the word GO is in all of them.

Briefly I am creating a list of coords in PoiEdit and am putting in a few words for description and then the lat and long numbers.

Miss POI, I believe you said a while ago that sometimes you're curious to know just how the downloads are doing. Well, here's the current count of downloads for the following POI's:

FDNY=179
NASSAU PD=122
SUFFOLK PD=127
NYPD=469
NJPD=244
WAWA=1207
BROOKLYN ATTRACTIONS=565

I took all of the Wachovia Bank poi files for the multiple states and combined them into one big file (in alphabetical order by state). I loaded the file into my Nuvi 200 and then tried locating a nearby bank. The unit informed me that the closest one is in Alabama, several hundred miles away from me here in Pennsylvania. (I have PA branches loaded into the file).

I have noticed in some files there are abbreviation codes like /CW/EP/DF after the names. What do these codes mean?

I JUST CREATED A POI THIS IS WHAT I DID LATITUDE,LONGITUDE,NAME OF SCHOOL,SCHOOL ZONE AHEAD SLOW DOWN@40KM/HR,CVS.I then changed it to a gpx file, now at the end of my poi instead of putting cvs would I put mp3 and would that give me the voice that would say school zone ahead slow down I have a garmin 650 Thank you I'm I right or way out to lunch. I just made a poi file in cvs. change it to a gpx. file that has the school zone alert on it with the speed @ 40 km/hr. Now I would like to add the voice alert that say school zone ahead slow down. Do I just add it to the end of the file I already made or make a new file with the school zone ahead slow down. thank much lucky

Is there a listing for business's that have created their own POIs that can be downloaded from their website?

I would love to have a poi for 76 gas stations. I guess I could create one.

name the folder say "university" and save it on your computer to a new folder that you name say: POI

download a favorite .bmp symbol and call also "university" save it in POI

download a mp3 sound you like and save it in POI

I am new at this. I am trying to download campground POI files. I have the POI download software on my computer. I created a folder on my desktop. I downloaded two POI files and put them in a folder labeled "campgrounds" within the POI folder on my desktop. I double clicked the POI download software and plugged in my gps garmin 760. It appeared to download the files.

I tried to submit a file for wal-mart in bolivar tenn., but it said it had to be a cvs. or another type file. all i have in my folders are excel spread sheets. i don't know how to change the file type. anyway the correct lon & lat. for the wal-mart is -89.02492 and 35.278323. the mailing address is corect, but when you google earth it's off by 3/4 of a mile east. hope org.

can you set your garmin 650 gpx to pick up police radar will they are moving or standing still.Is there a poi file I can creat.

I have several very large CSV files that I'd like to use in a garmin gps, as POIs. The problem is the comment feidls are too long & I need to add line breaks. Does anyone have a macro for excel or open office that will automatically do that for me? I'm not smart enought to figure it all out.

I'd like ot be able to customize how many charachters are left between line breaks.

I cant seem to get bmp files to go into anything, What to do ?

I'm a newbie here & this is probably a silly question but here goes.How do I insert a picture on my file?I have looked at all the other posts but cannot find any info on this.Any help will be very much appreciated.

im am looking to create a speed trap poi for the long island expressway in ny, i have lookes at some of the csv files i have gotten off here and the lat and long coords are in a difeerent format thn my nuvi 360 displays when i save the location.

1. my question is do i have to convert all my coordinates to the same format as i see in the csv files or can i use what my nuvi 360 displays.

Has anybody run across any Golden Corral Restaurant POI's out there? I searched POI-Factory, both althabetically, and by category. Only found one for South Carolina.

When I try and use POILoader on my laptop all I get is a screen that says "Welcome to POI Loader. This program will retrieve.....etc" I don't get any buttons like next to push to continue. I have this problem with both the Nuvi 200 or the SD card alone connected to the computer via a card reader.

I stumbled across this java app. online and it works pretty dang slick. Has anyone else tried it yet?

It creates the POI file for you, all you have to do is enter what you're looking for and it searches the web for them and creates the file.

I created the following web site; it will generate gpx files based on user input:

The Longitude and Latitude can be calculated based upon address information typed in by the visitor.

gpx poi files created with this web site have been successfully downloaded to a Garmin nuvi 260 navigator.
