Creating POI files

Hello,

Hi everyone, this is my first time making custom POI...

Can somone please help?

I have a garmin, is there a way to include the categories into the POI?

For example, can I include "american" + "food" or "shopping" + "department"?

I understand that customized POI are under "extra" Is there a way to merge them with the built in garmin POIs?

Several days ago I uploaded the subject POI file.

Days later, when it never showed up on the site, I did it a second time(under "create content", "POI file".

All seemed well but it never showed up.

What might I be doing wrong?

I was wondering what's the best place to find the addresses for creating poi files?

I have a bunch of ideas of stuff that I want to create but no easy way to get the information.

I've used batchgeocoder before to do stuff for work so all I need is help finding the places I want.

Does anyone know of a way to convert DeLorme .SAF files to a POI file that I can upload to my Garmin? I have a bunch of .SAF files from when I had a USB GPS for my laptop and would like to create POI files from them.

After using Garmin POILoader I cannot get it to recognize files with carriage returns so that information is displayed on multiple lines. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to correctly put a carriage return or line break in a POI file? Thank you in advance for your information.

I have created a POI file using Excel and saved it as aCSV file. In Field 4 I have put address and phone number. I would like the number to be dialable while having it and the address display on my GPSr screen (SP c550). I assume the csv file needs to be converted to GPX. Can someone walk me through the csv file arrangement and the conversion?

I am new to the GPS world and have some favorite resterraunts in the LA area. I would like to know hot to create a POI file of my favorite resteraunts. I i searched the topics earlier this morning. I ahve tried the following.

1. Created an account in google
2. filled in the necessary info. ( created a new map, filled in title and description, marked public) clicked done

What is the correct syntax for a red light file as a ,csv file? I wanted to try it on a few of the lights in my area. Thank you in advance for your responses and information.

I downloaded several poi files (Thanks!) and they seem to work quite well on my 350. However, I would like to enable a proximity alert for one entire file (Crakerbarrel) so that if I'm within 5 or 6 miles of a location, the 350 will let me know.

How do I do this?

Sorry to everyone for repeating this request, but is there anyone out there in Garminland that has successfully managed to set up POI proximity alerts on the Nokia N82?
I have tried everything mentioned on this site, but only manage to get the POI icon onto the screen/map, with no alerts at all.

I do not know if this topic has been discussed before, if yes, someone please post the link. How do I set a speed limit alert with a starting point and an exnding point?

Hello all - I am new here and have reviewed the FAQ's, but don't seem to see anything on speed POI's. It seems to be pretty coincidental if any 2 people wanted the same stretch of road, but I just wonder...

I'm using gpsbabel to create poi's and proximity alerts, command line:
gpsbabel -i gpx -f "poi.gpx" -o garmin_gpi,alerts=1,proximity=100m
-F "poi.gpi" .
It never seems to alert though, any ideas?

Dear Friends,

Google Earth was behaving strangely today and locking up on me. I therefore downloaded an update to see if that would resolve the problem. The picture is now in 3D and the coordinates are calculating to six decimal places instead of four.

How do I create a custom POI file with bluetooth capabilities for the phone number?

I have an Excel spreadsheet with name, address, and phone. I have successfully created a GPX using GPS Visualizer's batch geocoder, but the phone number is not activated.

Can someone help?

I would like to load my custom POI and my MP3 selections to my micro SD card. I can put the MP3 selections on the card but I can't figure out how to put the POI on the card using the Garmin POI loader. It would appear they are loading on the main Nuvi 850 not on the card. I am very new at this so please excuse this question if I am not understanding just how things work!

Ok, maybe somebody can help me here... I'll tell you what I'd like to do, then maybe you can tell me the easiest way to pull it off.
