Garmin talk

Hi Folks,

Ok, I've got a VERY WEIRD problem with my Nuvi 660. When I look at my POI CSV files in Excel, some many have as many as 1000 entries HOWEVER when I try and look at them in my Nuvi 660, it will only show me a fraction of those. What I mean to say is, I get anywhere from 45-54 entires in the list before it won't allow me to scroll any further.

Yesterday, I stopped by an Office Depot near my home and was looking at the GPS devices that they carry. There was a nuvi that caught my eye. The sign said that it was a nuvi 200, but since I have one, I knew that it wasn't. what caught my eye was that it doesn't have a "car" icon, instead a triangle ala Tom Tom!

While traveling, Is there a specific zoom level at which the GPS is calibrated to. It seems to allow me to zoom in quite close but lasts for literally 1 second and zooms back out, no matter whether I'm stopped or traveling at different speeds. It always seems to take 4 taps on the + sign till it zooms no more then about a second later it zooms back out.

I am in the process of updating my cell phone and I have a NUVI 360 in the process of being delivered. Question - the sammy m510 is not on the Garmin list but it is stereo bluetooth and does voice dial, should I assume that Garmin is slow to update their list and that the phone will work? That model of phone is 1 yr old next month.

skins seem to be the big thing now-- from ipods, to blogs, winamp players, and even browsers..

it is at all possible to do it for the nuvi? i believe its possible.. and i apologize if this has been discussed or if i came out to be late on it. but i wish there was a way to rearrange how the 'WHERE TO, VIEW MAP, etc' screen would look.. the blue screen could use a lil warmth or life.

Loaded v4.4 from the Garmin site and now my blue tooth connects and disconnects with my Blackberry 8800.

It was working fine previously under the old software version.

I have tried to pair the two machines again and the problem still occurs.

Does anyone have the same issue?

Any idea how to correct this?

I'm going to create & eventually submit here my custom POI files.

After perusing some other POI files here, I have a question - it seems the format is Lat, Long, Name, Long Description.

If you're still hanging on to your Garmin GPS 18 ... saving it for a rummage sale because the nRoute mapping software is just so "old fashioned" ... there's still a future for this model. Garmin released an application called "Spanner" that makes this GPS model compatible with all NMEA 0183 software applications. Also, be sure to update your PC's Garmin USB drivers before making these changes.

Hi. I'm trying to get an understanding of what's possible with Mapsource and my Garmin C340 and my friend's Garmin C530. I've searched and read posts all over the place until my eyes are blurry and I'm still confused. I was directed to this forum by some kind folks in the Garmin newsgroup. So here I am with hat in hand looking for assistance.

Has anyone tried one of the air vent holders for the Garmin? Befor I buy one, I wanted to know if they block too much air or if the unit drops down.

I was looking in a The Source store (Canadian Radio Shack)this weekend and saw they were having a sale on the Garmin 250 but selling them as "his and Hers' sets. One was the regular color but the other one was pink. They were selling like hot cakes. Does color really matter?

Did anyone else notice this on his/her 660?
When trying to save a location into Favorites as "whatever @ wherever" (w/o quotes, of course!), the @ symbol never appear in the locations's name after saving it in the first place! the saved name is always displayed as "whatever wherever".
To nonetheless add the @ symbol I must Edit favorite's name...

has any one bought the new garmin maps 2008 City Navigator® Europe NT.

i have v9 maps would it be worth upgrading.

I purchased a Nuvi 750 from HSN on their promo day of 2/16/08. I already had the "beanbag" mount and, when using it with the 750, the adapter would come off too easily - whenever I swung it left or right. I called Garmin on Monday 3/17 and they shipped me a new adapter via UPS with a *promised* date of delivery of 3/20/08. It arrived on 3/20 and works much better than the original.

Recently I've had a case when my Garmin 350 with updated to 2008 map lead me through the field, about few hundred feet from the real highway in PA. I was visiting friends.

My guess would be that this highway was finished at least 2 years ago, because the Google maps already have the change.

I have a 250w and have been looking for new voices (by the other posts i have read everyone is doing the same) I managed to find a tom and jerry file then found it was for TomTom in .VIF format. Can someone point me in the right direction to convert to .SUM or .VPM files???

Is the 350 a better buy than the 260? I belive that the 350 was one of the first nuvis made. Is it ready to be replaced? Is the chip set the old type? The flip out antenna better than built in? Besides the mp3 player and a few other items is there any reason to buy the 350?

When is Garmin or MSN gonna fix the problems with the 680 and the "weather Alert" icon. "no match found"!

It's getting old Garmin. Kick MSN in the butt and get them moving on a fix.

Ok, in google maps, you are able to get directions and let it figure out what it thinks is the best route. Afterwards, you can drag the route points to wherever you want to go. So, for instance, it tell you to go on some rural route, but you want to go on the interstate, no matter the time difference. So you grab a point over to the interstate and it recalculates the route.

I have a newly purchased Garmin 350. While at the Garmin web site, there was an options to down, or install, the current list of road construction areas. I accomplished this, directly to my GPS, while it was connected to the computer. Although, I’m not sure what this does or how it works.. I don’t see an additional PIO file.
