Garmin talk

I am new-ish to Garmin. I have had my nav system for almost a yr and got an update notification today on the screen. I went on their website to get my "free" update and nothing was available. It is saying the 2009 is coming late April but will not let me update the 2008.

Are we supposed to get an update free?

I'm of the age that I find myself getting lost and also need bigger screens. I see the Garmin 2700 going on sale at Costco on-line 4/11 ($500) but don't know if it will fit on my dash.

The listed specs show the hight at 4.5" and width at 7.5". However the pictures look taller when sitting in the mount device.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and GPS's. It's my first one that I just got and I haven't even had a chance to use it yet.

Does the POI Loader "Ignore" function, when selected, mean that POI file will not be loaded and will not appear as a Custom POI? Or does it mean that you are not choosing to set an alert for that POI file, but it will still appear?

New POI Loader 2.5.2 as of March 28, 2008.
Changes made from version 2.5.1 to 2.5.2:
*Fixed an issue with loading BMP files.
*Fixed an issue with saving GPI files to SD cards.

I downloaded lots of vehicle and I want to view to select before load to the GPS. I just wondering that can we view the files with .SRF extension. Could anyone please give me some advice.

i have a garmin c 330 its about two years old and has all of the current updates the map is nt 8 . twice since i had the unit when you boot it up it says your map is outdated . turn the unit off and boot it up again and i dont get the outdated map thing . only happened twice in two years is it programed to tell you this on a set time frame ? thanks glenn

I heard that Garmin will release the new updated version of their map sometime in May of this year and the retail price will be around. $70.00

I am curious why do some old established business not appear as a POI in the Garmin database but some business that have been closed for years appear. My friend has had a restaurant for 20 years and is not in their database but a Pizza business that has closed is still can be pulled up when searching for restaurants in our area. Is there any way to have it added to all GPS databases?

Does anyone use invisibleshield for his/her Garmin gps? How does it work? Does it cause overheat problem?
Please advise me before I make investment for it. Thanks

Has anyone else had this problem? I have u-turns set as an avoidance, but the other day I was in Las Vegas and it wanted me to go south on the Vegas Strip, then do a u-turn to come back north. Because of traffic, I knew a u-turn was not feasable at that time of day, so I drove over a block and went past the destination to come back in the correct direction.

ok, is there a way to convert mapsource waypoints to csv? to make it easier to make a poi list?

I've been having fun adding POI files to my new Garmin but have noticed a discrepancy that I can't figure out. The POI detail screen appears to have three display areas. 1)Top line has POI name in large font, 2)Second line sometimes has first line of the description in a slightly smaller font, and 3)Third, fourth and fifth lines have the entire description in the smallest font.

On my Nuvi 250, when you touch the vehicle icion, it shows the elevation. But the problem is the elevation always keeps changing even if I'm not driving. I've tried many times standing somewhere instead of moving, and checked the elevation. Every time, I got a different number, range from -1 meter to 140 meters. I guess something must be wrong here, but don't know why.

I downloaded the gpx file and tried to use the loader to put it on my Nuvi but the loader doesn't recognize it. Any suggestions?

My job entails visiting all colleges in NY/NJ and NC/SC, is there a POI file I can download of all the colleges to my Garmin Nuvi 200?

As some of you know I am Bus and Limo Driver over the road in the South West USA. I am sorry to say that on some of our buses the cig lighter dose not work. I need a back up for when I get a bus like this. If you are an OTR your rig may not have a working cig lighter. Or your car or pick up may not have a working one in it.

For a brief moment, Costco had the nuvi 360's for $250, but I cant find them on their website anymore.

Anyone know the scoop?
