Garmin talk

I'm a little gun-shy about calling this an upgrade with the bad experiences many of us have had with the disconnect problems on our smartphones. I spotted the upgrade from fw v3.00 to v3.10 while checking things out on the webupdater. It stated that it would address the issue of phone disconnects and I decided to upload this firmware version.

I want to go to POI and select fast food (for example) and in addition to the list of fast food places, I want to go back to map mode and have icons of fast food show on the map as I drive by them.

How do I do this on my 350?

Just saw firmware ver. 4.30 dated 2/22/08 for Nuvi 660 on Garmin's website. Has anyone downloaded and installed it? Any problems or glitches with it?

I saw some earlier discussion on this board that ver. 4.30 was so buggy that Garmin had to take it down. I wonder what I saw just now is the same one or a replacement that has been debugged. Any comments by anyone?

Hi. I'm a new user and this is my first post. I recently replaced my stolen Magellan with a Garmin nuvi 760. I love it. I've downloaded some POI files and got them working.

Has anyone's Nuvi started mysteriously catching local TV channels? I was driving to work this morning and the satellite signal became very weak then all of a sudden the TV news came on with the local traffic report. The picture wasn't too clear but I could definitely make out one of the local news reports talking about the traffic jam that I was stuck in.

Google and Mapquest have teamed up with Garmin to allow users to import routes and locations that they find on their respective services onto their Garmin GPS. This obviously requires a usb connection of sorts, but should be available on google starting tomorrow.

First, this unit lock up once or twice a day. Usually when a POI proximity alert happens

and now, it wond change to night mode automatically like it use to.

I have put the BMP inside my POI file and uploaded it. They do not show up on my Garmin Nuvi 260w. How do I make them show up.

OK! once i put mu POI's in my nuvi 260w i made sure that the proximity was checked. Should it alert me when im by any of those POIs'? or does it only do it for the Red Light Cameras?

I have found that Visual Earth is far more up to date than Google Earth or Mapsource. After mentioning this to my son he decided to work on a software program to search Visual Earth for address locations in batch and individual format. He said he will post the program when it is complete and relatively bug free.

So I recommended my company to purchase 3 Garmin Nuvi 650's for field reps who travel around the state of CA.

Now that theyve bought them, I have to support the units, I also have to train the users. I should write up a little tip sheet for them.

Anyone want to add to my list?

1. Routing is only 75% accurate. Verify onlne if possible.

Download csv, mp3 and bmp file and have Garmin poiloader installed. How step by step create that I will see bmp file as rest area icon, mp3 plays REST AREA?

"Starting Tuesday, people using Google Maps to plan trips will be able to send location data to their Garmin GPS systems, the companies announced on Monday. The feature, called "Send-to-Garmin", will eliminate the need to re-key route information into GPS devices."

This is in addition to Garmin's partnership with MapQuest.

Anyone know how my Nuvi 660 would react in a light plane? I think the speed would work out OK, but how would it deal with not sticking to roads?

Recently, I realized that I forgot the turn for my friends house while I was on the freeway. I pulled out the Garmin & plugged it in. Before it had acquired satellites, I began to input the saved favorite to get me there, & initialized the route. I knew the off-ramp, but not the street to turn on.

i was trying to go to the healthtrax gym in germantown on goldenrod lane. my friend told me to just follow him.. i told him not to worry because i had my gps with me..

coming from 355N.. my nuvi 660 told me to take a left on goldenrod lane.. when in fact the building was actually to the right!

Just curious to what all extras are available for the garmin 260w
