Nuvi 360 - Incorrect time?

Anyone know is it possible to set the time without doing a hard reset which I understand erases all my user entered data? If this is the only way to reset the time, can I backup my data and reset/reload it?

Time

The time doesn't need resetting the unit gets the time when it connects to the satellites, if the time in your unit is off then you need to change the time zone so it is synchronized and shows the correct time for your area.

isn't it odd

that it's necessary for the user to select their time zone? shouldn't the gps be able to determine that from their location?

Time zones

don't automatically switch all the time. When I went to Hawaii, it changed on its own the first time I turned it on. When I returned back to Arizona, I had to change it myself. You'd think it would be automatic since it knows exactly where you are.

Because a GPSr can only see satellites above the horizon, it needs to know what satellites to look for at any given time. By using an Almanac (a timetable of satellite numbers and their orbits) stored in the receiver’s memory, the GPSr can determine the distance and position of any GPS satellite.

To use this almanac data, your GPS needs to know where you are, or be given the opportunity to “find itself”.

This process is only necessary under the following conditions:

• First time use from Factory
• The receiver has been moved over 500 miles from the last calculated position with power off
• The receiver’s memory has been cleared

The reason to select the time zone is to expedite the process or by letting the receiver on with a clear sky it will do it on its own but it will take a while.

Automatic Time Zone

This has always been a pet peeve of mine. The GPSr knows exactly where I am so should have the 'option' of automatically changing the time.

I've been on a road trip traveling from the Central time zone to Eastern. We had to be there by 11AM (7 hour drive) and others in the car thought we had extra time because our ETA was 9:45AM (Central Time). I had to explain to them that the GPSr (aka the programmer) wasn't smart enough to do it.

automatic time zone

there is a reason that the time zone is not changing on it's own.

a lot of truck drivers and other business pro's
travel into and out of different time zones.

as a truck driver based in Tennessee I am required by law to use Central time as my reporting time ( required to account for each day in 15 minute increments ) the full 24 hrs of each day so for me its nice that my time remains the same on the display unlike my cell phone. besides what's more important changing time or mapping. As An "Option"

As a truck driver myself I am aware of the 24 hour day based on your base time zone. That is why I would like it as an "option". Most of the time I want to know when I will be arriving somewhere in local time. I use my watch for log book entry.

I use the Time Zone POI

I use the custom POI for Time Zones, set up with an alert so I don't even have to think about it. When I approach a time zone change, I hear the alert, and I can change the time zone on my Nuvi and it immediately updates my ETA. If I know I'm going to cross a time zone during the day's drive, I will just change it at the start of the day, and then I will always know when I'm arriving in local time.

Not that big a deal to me.
