Garmin talk

We recently returned from The Grand Tetons National Park and Yellowstone National Park. The POI files available on this site were invaluable for our traveling. What I would like to do is determine a way to modify the POI files so that an alert would be given each time we were near a point that was contained in the POI file.

I have a Nuvi 680 with MSN traffic. My lighter adapter went out so I had to order a new one (ouch!) Anyway it came today and on the back of the package it lists all of the units the adapter is compatible with. It shows the 7xx series, and also the 680. There is a note on the 680 that indicates it only receives traffic, weather, movies and gas prices.

Just an FYI...
After speaking with garmin regarding my poor bluetooth performance with my blackberry 7520..(See post: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/17287 ) I was told that it is still possible to backdate from the current 4.60.
There is no lockout as with the current 7xx 4.0 and above.
Granted, it was a front line rep, but she put me on hold and said she spoke to a senior tech/developer.

I just opened a GPX, I saved with Garmin Mapsource, in Microsoft word 2003 and it dowloaded XML and Garmin GPX extensions it then displays the file in and easy to edit form.

Just started playing so other's comments would be great

I have noticed a number of posts about difficulties in getting the phone links working on the Garmin

I had the same problem so set out to investigate.

Listed below are my findings.

To add the phone number with a dial icon requires the use of a GPX file as Garmin have added extensions to that scheme. I have yet to find a way to do it with CSVs.

Well.. since I got my 660 back I've noticed that the BT phone is struggling a bit.

V4.60 BT V3.1
Phone: Blackberry 7520

It worked perfectly on the previous 660 that was running V4.50 and BT V2.4
(I had backdated to 2.4 for known blackberry connect issues. v3.1 was reported to have fixed this so I let it upgrade from v3.0 to v3.1)

how do delete all contens in unit?.Iam trying to set up poi for school zones and got about 6.poi's Do someone have a copy of the csv fie. here. thanks

Is it just me? I'm I nutz?

I tried to xfer some destinations from mapquest using the latest/greatest garmin communicator to BOTH the nuvi 350 and a 660

350 is running v3.50
660 is running v4.60
Both have SD cards

1) When I SEND TO GPS and tell it to load to the SD card, it creates directory/file called garmin\gpx\mapquest xxx.gpx where xxx is just a random number.

I've followed exactly the directions on http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/pagepoi.02.htm#... to convert audio files to wav format and load them into my Nuvi 260, but I'm still not getting anything other than the default pings or bongs when the unit alerts.

I was wondering if someone might supply me with the Output Specs on the Garmin AC/USB charger. Since this is a normal electrical outlet with USB outlet, I wanted to use one of my other adapters to charge the 760. The current one that I have is Output Voltage: DC5V Output Current: DC 1A I am hoping that this will work instead of having one more thing to pack and spending the extra money.

There is one weakness that I find in my Nuvi 880.

Now before I put my question into print I want to clearly state that I am NOT a computer whiz but I do have some basic knowledge.

I’m curious if there is a small piece of software that could be loaded onto the Nuvi or the SD card that would allow them to run avi files.

I update my POIs about every 2 weeks. I have been using the manual mode to set the distance for POI alerts. This is areal pain. I have read the thread on how to set alerts but it doesn't make sense to me. Can I put one of the names mentioned in the file title along with a number so that I don't have to set alerts manually every time?

I still have mp3's on my 360 even after I've deleted them from the folder on my hard drive. I use a Mac. I have no record of them but they won't leave the Nuvi itself.

My 660 froze up and it wont shut down. I tried pushing the power button but nothing.

New nuvi cam with 2009 maps and version 3.0 software. With all the 4.x fiasco is it even worth it to upgrade to version 4.1? I ran the webupdater and it said version 4.1 was the only update. I assume the maps are up to date?

Does the 205w have a diagnostic "secret" Screen? I tried taping on the clock as mentioned on other posts and nothing comes up.

OK, I know there a bunch of smart folks on here. I'm not one of them. Can someone please tell me if it is possible to change specific colors on the Nuvi(760)? My goal is to enhance the 'alert' section. When I get an alert for a red light camera, the alert box is light grey and not attention getting. Unless I am looking at the unit or tuned to the FM broadcast, I miss the alert.

I am hoping that this is an easy question to answer... but HOW do I change the home location on my Nuvi 260. The Garmin webpage is useless for this!

On a nuvi 350,when an alert is active, I could not get the GPS to return to the route. I got the message do I wnat to insert as a viapoint.
My question is how do I clean off the rest area alert and return to the route I am following.
