what can go on SD card?

I have a nuvi 270... and finally got a card reader for the SD memory chip I bought with the unit. There is nothing in the small pamphlet of a manual for this unit that even discusses the use of the chip. I have brought across my custom POIs to the chip using the POI loader...but was wondering if anything else can be saved to the chip and be able to be used by the nuvi? What folder would be setup? For example, it would be nice to have some of the variations of the cars/ships/planes icons that show one where you are on the map screen. If those are on the SD chip, will the nuvi detect them? Also images.... can they be put on the chip and be detected by the unit? (obviously, the chip after getting the information either through the POI loader or directly as an external drive will be put into the nuvi memory slot .... since I'm sure someone will ask!!!)

For Me, Pictures...and a Question for All...

I put a bunch of pictures on my SD card. It does take a while to load when viewing though. I would like to know if I use all the internal memory of the GPS, if the unit automatically will start storing memory on the SD card....I have the same unit, nuvi 270...

stuff

That unit has a Picture Viewer so you can put pictures on the card. There is no .mp3 player so music, books, etc. are out. You could likely add .wav files and get them to work as POI alerts like folks have done with other units lacking .mp3 support. Different icons for the car don't go on the card. Your unit supports them but they go on the unit itself rather than on the card.

Edison... it's my

Edison... it's my understanding, and people can correct me if I'm wrong, that the nuvi 270 cannot write to the SD card, but only can read from the card. Thus I don't see how it can overflow it's memory onto the SD card directly.

I experimented with the images.... put a bunch of different images within separate folders, and under one "jpg" named folder, placed it on the SD card within the "Garmin" folder.... and looked. The nuvi showed all the new jpgs, but ignored the separation I had (the order of the photos appears scrambled on the nuvi). That's too bad... I was thinking I could put some Powerpoint slides (converted to jpgs) of various talks...within individual folders, and retain that structure on the nuvi..... but looks like it won't work.

Thanks!

I thank you for the information! I thought that this was the case...I'm a tad bit computer/electronic illiterate...

The jpg viewing order maybe by date ordered

Try converting the powerpoint slides by frame first order and also naming each slide presentation jpg same ending 001 to 010 (etc).
