Nuvi 255W - POI Line Breaks

Sounds like line breaks in the description for custom POIs has been a problem for various models. Is, or was this a problem with the Nuvi 255W?

I can't get my POI Descrptions to show as multi-line text. I am fairly certain I am creating the csv file correctly.

how do they appear?

Try going into the .csv file and confirm the lines break within the cell. Alt-ent put in a line break.

They appear in the cell with

They appear in the cell with the line breaks (on three separate lines). It seems that the work around for some of the other Nuvi models works. You have to replace all of the linebreaks with a break symbol < br>. Works for the Description but not for the POI Name.

Test it ..

As far as we know, the only Garmin GPS units that seem to be affected are the nüvi 350 and the nüvi 360.

If you want to test your GPS, there's a "Linebreak Testing" link in the left window at http://PoiVerifier.com There are two test methods available: using a direct download of a gpi file, or using Garmin's POI Loader with a csv file.

Would appreciate knowing the results.

The results are not good - the description displays on one line instead of two.

Are there any plans to fix this problem?

Thanks,

If you would, ..

I uploaded a file with nuvi linebreaks. If you would try it and let me know the results, I'd appreciate it.

It isn't a big problem as changing all the linebreaks to <br> solves the problem. If the problem is still in the nuvi 2xx line, I doubt whether it will be fixed. It has been around since early 2007 and they haven't done anything yet.

That works

results are as expected:

Field 4
nuvi

I guess I will need to download and start using POI Verifier to modify any csv files I download.

I just got my 255W, I did not know it had been out for so long. I am surprised people are not more aware of this.

Let me know if I can be of more assitance.

Didn't mean the 255

What I meant by "It has been around since early 2007 and they haven't done anything yet." was that the linebreak display issue has been around since then. I have no idea how long the 255W has been out. Sorry if I made it confusing.
