Garmin talk

I loaded a few new POI files, and none are appearing when I search for them. i.e. New Target location is on POI file but does not appear when I search for it (it located about 5 miles away from my home).

I loaded my state parks onto my 650, however the unit only displays those w/i 50 mi of my current location. I can change locations and get more, but that seems like extra work. I did not have any problems getting the unit to show all the National Parks. Is there a limit to the number of POI the unit will retrieve? Can that be changed?

Should downloaded .bmp icons display on the Nuvi 260? I made sure the file names match and they do not display.

Question for the almighty out there. Is gpsonsale.com a creditable place to buy a gps? does anybody have experience with them?

I got the idea of extra icons for different POI lists, but what about the built in (Nuvi, for me) icons? Any way to change them?

OK, maybe I am asking too much of this nifty machine. Is it possible for a custom POI alert to be activated depending on the direction you are headed ?

I have set some speed zones for my route to the office. For some, I want them when headed south but not when encountered heading north (i.e. leaving the zone rather than entering it)

I finally received my 2008 city navigator north america NT map upgrade. Now I know that my C330 doesn't have the memory capacity to take the whole upgrade, so I've loaded in Canada and the upper states portion. I've heard that you can install the other half of the upgrade to an SD card, but I can't figure out how to do it.

I have filled the Quest2 memory with custom POIs so to create more memory I have gone thru each .csv file and edited out entries, line by line, so that I am left with only those POIs in the region where I travel, the western U.S. There are gaps in the excel files where I have deleted line I don't need but this seems to be no problem.

Can the 660 show current long/lat position? If so, please explain.

nuvi650 - 4GB SDHC Card

What is the best way to add files to the SD Card for MP3s and custom POIs in order to fully maximize the card's capacity.

What is the best directory structure?

ex: all mp3's in 1 directory - or sub-directories etc

ex: all POIs in 1 directory or sub-directories as well

Recently acquired a Nuvi350 for Xmas and initially have (2) questions.
#1. Can you download POI files, then put them on a SD disk and insert into your GPS for use without actually installing? If so, will they show up on tour favorites menu?
#2. What is the internal storage capacity of the Nuvi350 for POI's etc?

I get an error when using the poi loader to load custom poi into my Nuvi 350. The error says that there is a problem with (for example) line 217, which is the first blank line after the list ends. It also says any data after this point will not be loaded. It does not seem to effect anything. I still have the pois loaded and they all work, since all the points are before the 'bad point'.

I just got my 760 and found it to be off by as much as 4 or 5 house addresses and up to 500 feet. I called Garmin and they told me that the grid might be off in my area. It if frustrating when you put an address in and drive to it and you know you go past it becasue the grid is off. Has anyone else had this problem or know a solution?

I just received a Garmin 650 and would like to know if there is a way to "record" favorite fishing spots and then create custom POI's using Mapsource.

Friends of ours were in Chicago yesterday and their Garmin 330 told them "Restricted area". I have traveled over 5k miles with our 7200 and it has never said "Restricted area". Anybody know what it means.

Does anyone have the ability to record and upload a decent Panera Bread sound file? I lack the resources to do it and would appreciate anyones generosity to create a nice sound file who has the capability and the time. Thank you.

In one of the other discussions Miss POI mentioned the possibility of new downloads such as vehicles and splash screens (I look forward to that).

Anyway, I use several different splash screen, some functional, some cosmetic.
I have screens with my signature, my initials, my initials using naval signal flags, one of the American flag. I change them as the mood strikes.

First off, I know I dont have a garmin reciever but I do have garmin software/maps and the "other" forum doesnt get much action.... so I'm posting my question here....

Just got a new Garmin c550 and love it, but the screen would flash real quick every so often. Returned the first one and exchanged it for another and this c550 does it also.

Does anyone know is this normal maybe due to recalculating your location, etc.

Any thoughts?
