New POIs not appearing on Nuvi device

I loaded a few new POI files, and none are appearing when I search for them. i.e. New Target location is on POI file but does not appear when I search for it (it located about 5 miles away from my home).
Never mind...just realized,
Never mind...just realized, you have to go to My Locations, Custom POIs on the device. THAT SUCKS. Why can't it add it to the regular list. Garmin needs to improve that.
Map Data
The poi's that come with your unit are from Navteq and imbedded in your map version. These can't be changed unless you upgrade your map, but if the data isn't right with Navteq - then it won't be right your your GPS.
The great thing about custom POI's is you can update them anytime. So those of us that choose to update our maps every other year or so, we can still have current data for the places we choose to go.
I think that in time you will learn to appreciate it as well.

I can see where you might want to keep the two separated. But I agree that a menu choice to set preferences of what files are searched would be very nice. I could definitely see an advantage for search choices like:
1. Built-In first, POI second.
2. POI first, built-in second.
3. Built-in only.
4. POI Only.
