GPSonsale.com

Question for the almighty out there. Is gpsonsale.com a creditable place to buy a gps? does anybody have experience with them?

I agree with Zecpull. Costco and Amazon are two low-cost retailers and they have a solid reputation. I do a lot of business with both (and with Costco I use both their stores and on-line facilities). My rule of thumb is that unless there is a significant difference in cost, I don't take too big of a chance. $20 is meaningless if they drop you like a hot potatoe when there's a problem. I'm not saying GPSonsale.com isn't a terrific retailer, but I haven't heard of them and I would be careful until you find out more info on them.

However, I just checked out their price on two items and they are at least $110 MORE expensive than Costco. Be sure you compare. They don't seem too cheap to me.

Good luck and let us know your buying experience if you decide to use them.

(Edit: Sorry, I can't add this early in the morning. Corrected the $$ difference.)

Actually, Amazon is $30 less expensive for the 360, and it will ship free.

you might want to try

you might want to try megagps.com. I recently ordered my garmin etrex cx from there.....saw them advertised in the back of some outdoor hiking mags.....hope this helps.

Another site

Another one that I can recommend is PCnation.com out of Chicago, lowest price I found on a Nuvi260 free 3 day FedEx shipping, I order one on 12/22 and was on the FedEx truck 2 hours later, a buddy order one last saturday and it is in transit.

AAA from BBB

Aside the well-known behemoth (Amazon, Costco, Wall Mart, ...) there are many other smaller vendors offering reputable services.
It seems www.gpsonsale.com is one of these: a member of BBB, with a stellar AAA rating!
Obviously, don't know about the price so it's your call, ochsfisher...

DO NOT shop at gpsonsale.com

My mother ordered three units as Christmas gifts, on gpsonsale.com they were listed as "NEW, just in from Garmin." However upon opening them on Christmas day it was obvious that these units were not new (inconsistencies in the packaging indicated this). Also the cardboard intended to restrain the units during transit was smashed in all three cases, allowing the units to potentially be damaged. The owner of that site, I think his name is Alan, is a jerk. He failed to respond to any of our concerns in the email we sent him and said that there would be a restocking fee for returning the damaged units. My mother unfortunately accepted his restocking fee because she does not have time to deal with this matter.

Do not shop with them. I ordered my replacement unit from Amazon.com Inc. I think it cost $20 more, but I prefer to work with reputable companies.

P.S. Their website does not list an actual business address, but only a P.O. Box. Not listing a business address is shady in my book.

i didnt buy from them i

i didnt buy from them i ended up getting it from amazon

If you're interested,

If you're interested, www.buyeretail.com has the 200 for $20 less than GPSonSale. Just got mine from them and paid less than $170 for the NEW unit.

PCNation

I ordered my nuvi 660 from PCNation. The price was competitive with free 3 day FedEx. My nuvi arrived 3 days after I placed my order. I would shop with them again.

They only have two reviews on Resellerratings.com. One of them is not good. You might want to post, or have your mother post a review there to inform other shoppers.

ResellerRatings.com is always a good spot to check when one is considering an online e-tailer. You will always find some negative posts even with the good retailers. The thing to look for is the statistics of positive vs negative. And of course, how many ratings do they have overall.

www.tigergps.com didn`t hav

I got my Nuvi 200 from gpsonsale.com, didn't have any trouble.

Their site looks pretty amateur but they shipped quickly, billed correctly, etc.

Costco - prices cant be beat

I ordered the Garmin nuvi 680 from Costco for 479. I have not been able to find it anywhere for even close to that price. They had them in stock at my local store but at this price they weren't in stock for long. I checked at Circuit city and they are on sale for $799, not much of a sale.

online retailer

i bought my nuvi 350 on tigerdirect.com got it within a week and lovin' it... got the refurb for less than 300 and havent had problems with it yet.. smile

you could have spent 32 more

GPSONSALE.COM = SCAM

I recently tried to buy a too good to be true priced Nuvi 760 as a late Christmas gift from this site. I placed the oredr on 1/5/08 which is a Sat. According to their website, all orders rcvd by 2 PM will ship that day. With the extra I was paying for express ship, the unit was due 1/11 at the very latest. I emailed, called,, emailed, to try & get the UPS tracking number so I could retrieve my $600+ purchase. After 4 days of no response I was less than pleaseed & had a sick feeling.

At 10:30 PM 1/11 I rcvd an email that they were not shipping. The "security person" said that since my bill to address & ship to weren't the same, that I needed to provide add'l info.

Bottom line, I will never again try to purchase from GPSONSALE.COM. The #1 reason being that there is no way to get ahold of anyone. No one answers the phn & no one responds to email. My money sat in limbo for a week & nothing happen.

STAY AWAY FROM GPSONSALE.COM

Shipping address

Most all online Businesses will not ship to an address that is different than the Billing address. I am sure that is what triggered the security questions. This is done for Identity theft reasons. Or Stolen credit cards....that will be canceled later after the Item has shipped.. So I wouldnt be so quick to judge on that reasoning..

This is normal for most merchants

just someboody wrote:

This is pretty much standard practice with online merchants. Most, but not all, will balk and ask for extra verification when the shipping address and billing address do not match. It is one of the first signs of potential credit card fraud. I would expect this any time I order online and very often get it. We can all identify with the disappointment of not getting a gift shipped when desired, but you must keep in mind that if the transaction is fraudulent, the retailer ends up getting stiffed for the bill. The credit card companies protect the consumer, but there is no protection for the merchant when a stolen card is involved.

Ben's Bargains

Looks like Costco has some real good pricing.

Trouble is once you join one of those places; your wife fills up the house with toilet paper and 10 gallon drums of laundry detergent. Pretty soon the $30 you save on the GPS is gone. She call's it "spaving", spending and saving at the same time.

I've found Ben's Bargain's (http://bensbargains.net/) to be a great place to comparison shop. It works like Yahoo Shopping but seems to find better deals. Once you put in your zip code it can list the retailers in order of increasing total cost (inc. shipping and sales tax). It lists reputable dealers (NewEgg, Fry's) and a few more obscure ones. Give it a try.

He has every right to be mad. They are running a business and if they want positive feedback, should act as such. 1st someone should awnser the phone, take message, call back. 2nd if it is a known issue to have 2 addresses and the item should have shipped that day-why didn`t they contact him sooner? Like that day. 3rd if it was suspected security issue they should have also had made vocal contact. Common-they messed up somewhere, proably kept his express shipment money, and got around to contact him when they felt like it. If it isn`t crooked-its at least crappy customer service-and blatent not caring once they have the money. If they had a security reason to wait in silence, they should have refunded shipping and still awnsered the phone-PATHETIC! Thanks for the heads up.
