POI Loader Limit

I seem to have hit the limit of POI Loader. I loaded approx. 100 CSV files with BMP icons that contain approx. 1 million POIs. All CSV files loaded correctly. However, not all BMP icons loaded. It loaded all CSV files but only 25% of the BMP icons. Assuming these files are named A to Z, the BMP icons stop at G. The POI.GPI file is 70 Mb and I have 700 Mb free on GPSr. There is no issue with file names or hidden extensions.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a limit to what POI Loader can handle?

I know that these can be split up, but these files are generated in this format and would be difficult to split.

Memory?

Are you certain you didn't strain its memory? Sometimes you just can't pack 10 pounds of fertilizer into a 5 pound bag.

wow 1 million pois?! you

wow 1 million pois?! you must travel a lot.

POI Loader Limit

I have well over 1 million POIs on my SD card. I update and add POIs several times a week. I have not had any issues with POI Loader handling that number of POIs. I don't know if there is a limit, but I do know that I haven't reached it yet. Not sure about the BMPs though. Most of my files have them, but not all.

POI Loader Limit

The POI Loader does not restrict the amount of data that is loaded. The capacity of your unit's memory will restrict the amount of data that is loaded. A 4g SD cards hold a lot more data than the units.

There must be a limit. To take the Nuvi out of the picture and check POI Loader, I reloaded using tha Custom Folder (advanced) feature and saved to PC c drive. I got the exact same 70 Mb POI.GPI file, copied to Nuvi, and last 75% of BMPs still missing. Nuvi has 700 Mb free.

possibly a bad file?

I'd take about half the POI's and associated bmp's and move them to a temporary directory. Then create a GPI from the remaining data, and another from the moved data. If one has a problem and the other doesn't, it's probably something in the files.

I split up the files and

I split up the files and they all loaded correctly.

Here's Garmin's response:

When your adding that many custom poi's onto this unit it's designed mainly for memory purposes's to only carry half the alphabet. Unfortunately there is not a work around for this issue at this time.

What does that mean?

"...only carry half the alphabet." Maybe I need another cup of coffee to wake up, but what does that phrase even mean?!? It makes no sense to me. confused

I had the same problem

I eventually concluded that somebody at Garmin had a sense of humor and was having a bit of fun.

Actually it's pretty simple

If you load POI on even days it only loads those 13 that begin with the even numbered letters of the alphabet. On odd days the other 13 letters get loaded.

Yea, I thought the

Yea, I thought the explanation was lame. I think there is a file size limit of approx. 70 Mb.

Thanks for the comments - I got a kick out of them!!!

I think the operative word

I think the operative word here is "loaded". LOL

wow

nice job.

.

Ok, so Garmin's explanation is that it only loads half the alphabet due to memory limitations. But what if I have a 1gb POI file which only consists of the letter "A". hmmmmmm..........
