Map Display
I normally set my map to “normal”. I recently changed it to” more” and I did not see much difference in the display on the screen. I didn’t notice much more roads etc. What setting do you normally use? Does the “most” setting crowd the screen with too much detail and causes a reduction in loading the screen during recalculations?
Any tips to offer?
Thank you.
Normal
I have my map detail set to normal. I also found that "more" or "most" didn't really change much in the area where I live, but it did slow down re-drawing the map as I drove. Those higher settings seem to put a heavier load on the CPU and slows down the map drawing... at least on my 660. Maybe some of the newer models have a fast enough CPU that there is no impact on map re-drawing.

I use Most
I have a 760 and set it to most for no particular reason. Only in extremely dense urban areas with the map zoomed out do I get a map redraw delay. Most does put more street names and roads on the maps but couldn't tell you specifics.

I keep it at normal also. What would be the purpose of changing it?
Reason for changing
I see that the main difference is that it gives more street names on the map and that is the reason that I changed it to "more" I like to know the names of the intersections I am approaching as it helps me get my orientation.
Detail Settings
I believe the "Detail" settings on the Garmi units in most noticable the closer the zoom setting.
Although on my 2730 I can tell a difference even if I'm zoomed out a mile or more.
It is my understanding that Garmin has made changes to the amount of detail shown based on a much closer zoom than the older units.
Apparently it is an effort to make the screen redraws much smoother since they have to "Draw" less things on the screen if less detail is displayed.
This has been a complaint of many who had the last generation of nuvi's. ( 760 , 780 etc )
But if you never had one of those untis which displayed more detail you wouldn't know the difference.
As they say... "Ignorance is Bliss."
But as for me.... I always have my setting to "Most". I just like seeing everything I can while I travel. I dont' find it cluttered or distracting, but that's me.... others may find it information overload.
Most
I have my 760 set for most and I have no issues with the map redraw. I must say that I do notice some slight hesitation (intermittently) when driving on the expressway through a city.

Dorkusnimrod discussed this issue in item 4 of the following thread http://www.poi-factory.com/node/18769
Rural vs Urban Use
I primarily drive rural areas and the "Most" detail works really well with identifying upcoming Township and Range roads. That can be important if I want to slip over a couple of miles and take a paved road instead of a gravel one. Once I hit an urban area I note some jerkiness to the screen movement but it doesn't bother me enought to reduce the resolution.

Thats the reason why changed from normal. I wanted to see more info when I am driving. I didnt notice a big difference in detail or in the time taken to redraw the screen. Maybe if it was set at "Most" I would. Thanks everyone for the feed-back
