Garmin talk

I downloaded the Ohio Winery POI and was experimenting with the alerts.

I downloaded it to the card twice........and it shows 2 winery files on the card. Should be only 1, since it supposedly erases the original poi file.

Another problem.......I have the alerts set for 1500 feet. I was using the simulator to test it out. The alert dosen't sound until your pulling into the place.

The following is the response I received from Garmin Product Support reqarding the junction view in my 765T. Junction view appears to be working in other models and worked in mine until the latest map update and or firmware update. If it worked when purchased why can't they fix it.

my Nuvi 760 has a tourguide sound loop.
if one alert is triggert, than it plays the sound once.
if a second location is nearby ( while the first existing alert is still within range and showing on the screen) and its sound alert is triggert, then the first and second and first alert plays again and again several times. like one triggers the other, until i am out of the range of one of them.

I would like to alert others to the fact that Costco currently has on sale the Garmin Nuvi 855 for only $249. This unit allows users to control it by their Voice Commands, but it is also notable for not having two other popular Nuvi features: It does NOT have Bluetooth or free Traffic alerts.

Has anyone successfully replaced there nuvii battery. Mine only lasted just over 16 months, shows full charge but shutsdown in 5 mins or less. Please help!!!

I know there is lots of disussion regarding naming convention, but there is something I can't quite fathom I have done lots of searches and reading links, etc.

I tried hard re-set, it did not work. I then tried loading all favorites from 765t using MapSource, then delete all, then write back to unit. All of the favorites are still there. I have quite a long list, it would be a major pain to erase one by one.

OK, been doing a bunch of reading, playing with my new GPS, and generally trying things out. Getting some mixed results it seems. Anyway, I understand the difference between CSV and GPX files, but how do I handle files I download (like from the Garmin site) that are in the GPI format? Do I just manually transfer them over to my GPS, or do I need to allow the POI Loader to do this too?

I am about to jump into the 21st Century. After using my StreetPilot C330 for 4 years, I am going to purchase a Nuvi 765T. In selecting a SD Card, are they all the same, by that I mean, will they all fit a 765? Looking at an 8 Gig to store e-books and music along with POI's. Been a member here for 2 1/2 years, and It's still the BEST GPS site on the net.

Garmin installed a large(2G) folder/file on my computer when I was updating my GPS to a lifetime map update. Do I really need it on my computer? Can I just delete it? Or is it needed for the next update also?

I have the Nuvi 785T unit with MSN Direct but have a question about the service. I find that when I am driving the signal is at 1 red bar but when I stop it goes up to 1-3 green bars does anyone else have this issue? I live in NY and am well in the coverage area.

Is see there's a setting one can set for a distance alert to a POI,what's everyone have there's set too? what's a good number to use? mines at 2000ft for now.

Sorry if this has been asked before...
If I download POI's do they just sit in a file until I select a place I want to go? Or do icons appear on my map, so if I happen to be near a place of interest, I might stop there on whim.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 255wt.

I created a route in Mapqest.com and successfully downloaded onto the Nuvi 760. I can see the name of the route (filename.gpx) in Garmin-->GPX folder when I navigate to that folder from the computer. When I boot up the Nuvi and went to Whereto-->Route, it's not there. What am I, or did I do wrong?

Has anyone in the Greater Atlanta area and suburbs been getting "Lost Satellite Reception" or "Poor Reception" on their Garmin. This just started yesterday on my Nuvi 350 and 760. Signal is there at start up and will drop off and restore later. Sometimes does not restore at all for duration of drive. ?? In fact, it is doing it right now as I type on the laptop..!

I have found some POI files I would like to install on my Kenwood 9140 (Garmin) has anyone done this?

One solution brings up another question. Now that I know how to change the format in my Garmin 255W I need to know whether or not the Garmin cares which I use. If I use the Degrees and Decimal Minutes format will it correctly apply a POI inserted using the Decimal Degrees format? Or do I have to reformat each time I use a POI from a different source?

Any Garmin users here upgrade to IE 8. If so, any problems with Garmin programs such as 'Webupdater', 'POI Loader' or accessing the Garmin Site.

Why is there no ICON for rv parks or campgrounds in the POI,s to make them easier to find??. Since there is supposed to be over 6 million poi's there must be lots of them in this catagorie. My old 'Magellan Roadmate 800" had loads of HEADINGS under poi's including the above; there are thousands of rv'ers and campers out there who need an easy and fast way to find them.

Apologize for many questions. Is it possible to add mp3 alert files for the built-in POI? Or is it only for custom POI? IF I installed the custom POI (like Starbucks, which is more updated than my GPS) wouldn't many of the locations be the same and just take more space?
