Quick Question - Nuvi 500/550

Does anyone know if this unit will play WAV files? (And yes I have SOX as my current unit is a 200.)
I stopped in the Garmin store in Chicago and they told me that "installing any non-Garmin software could void your warranty." When I questioned the sales drone if this included custom POI, he backtracked and stated he wasn't sure.

I wasn't too certain after my discussion with the sales drone in the Garmin store. His comment about "installing non-Garmin software" gives an indication of the type of information being passed out by their reps. And he asked two or three others in the store if they knew the answer to my question about using wav alert sounds.
I like the 500/550 series for their capabilities - the lowest price units supporting routes and tracks - but was unsure until I got my answer. They have the 265WT on sale here for 229, the 500/550 is 299.

Know what you mean about some of the answers they give sometimes.I was looking at the Garmin site at the 500/550.Looks good but don't recall any feedback from any users yet.The 265 has came down some since I purchased the one I got back in Nov.I like the new features that have been coming out with on the new models.What't next?

POIs are data files, not software. I'm not aware of any actual software you can install on your Nuvi. MP3s, WAVs, POI, icons... they are all just data files.
Everything else that you might be interested in is software that gets installed on your computer, not the Garmin. So Garmin sales can take their attitude and...

The question to the sales rep was based on his lack of knowledge regarding loading custom poi. He assumed software such as SOX.exe was loaded into the unit and didn't reside on the user's computer. He just didn't know anything about how to load or use custom POI.
