While waiting for my 1490T to arrive I'm reading the user manual. The Bluetooth section has me wondering...

Track Log File Editing
If I wanted to upload a Track Log file from a Garmin Aera 500 or Zumo 660 and then edit the file how can it be done?
Can the Track Log file be viewed in a text editor, edited and then reloaded into the Garmin?
Will the Garmin device detect that the file has been edited and reject it?

Protective Case for 1490T?
My 1490T should be here in a few days and I've been thinking about a protective case.
Two years ago there was a thread about cases for the 2x5 series and someone here suggested a case at Radio Shack that fit perfectly even though it was designed for another piece of electronics. I went to a local store and picked one up on clearance for $5.

Costco 1490T
For those interested Costco has dropped the price on the Nuvi 1490T in their stores to $229.95. Seems like a pretty good deal. With their excellent return policy I don't think you can go wrong. Not available online....

Where to > Extras > Custom POIs
Is there any way to change the name of each POI entry to something other than "Custom POI"? I tried hacking into the GPI file, but I missed, and it failed well (or worked miserably). No sense reinventing the wheel if someone has already been down this road. I would like to see something other than just the Route 66 sample file in there.
Thanks in advance

Lost Power Cord
While in the middle of a 3,500 mile trip to the Rocky Mts (from Illinois) the cord that powers the Garmin 255W broke. (the cord that plugs into the cigeratte lighter) This meant that, after the battery was run down, I had no Garmin. Bad news. Can I get a replacement somewhere? I don't know what happened to the cord.

nuvi 2x5 (region file only) software version 6.60
Requires Webupdater.
Changes made from version 6.40 to 6.60:
Improvements in touchscreen calibration.
Improvements to Location Based Advertisements.
Also, improvements to American English Samantha version 1.1 to 1.2.
I'm sure somebody will advise if this is old news I've missed. Been on the road and off the net for a few days.

Road GPS unit for hiking...
Well after my nuvi 500 took a couple tumbles from my bike, I decided to use the second bike mount that didn't see action on my bike on my back pack's frame.

The only way that it's going to see dirt now is if I go down, and if I'm going down, screw the nuvi!

Emily and Daniel voice updates available - June, 2010
Greetings,
I see that Garmin voices British Daniel and Emily have been updated: Daniel to 1.70 and Emily to 2.00.
Added normalization of Singapore street names.
I don't think I'll update since I don't use Singaporese (or whatever the language is there) and if I updated, then I'd need to re-hex-edit the volumes to be louder again.

Any issues logging on to Garmin site for firware updates?
This is a two part question.
1.
I've be trying for the last two days to update my firmware from Garmin. All I get is the site is having problems and to try back later. Does anyone know what the latest update is for the 1390?
2.
I am running out of space on my 1390 and want to delete all their voices or should I say languages on the unit. Will that cause any problems for the unit?

Garmin 1690 New Bluetooth Issue
Installed the most recent blue tooth update, now it sporadically reboots when a call comes in. I have tried a hard reset, anyone else with this challenge?

garmin versus other GPS vendors - spoken street names
Generally I am pleased with the performance of my Garmin Nuvi 775T and 1260T GPS units, although, besides some lingering firmware bugs, the single issue I find most annoying is how the units speak street names (presumably based on map data as provided by Navteq). They speak street names that apparently tie to legal addresses rather than highway markers.

Deleteing routes from the "My Data" file 765T
Good morning to all. I was experimenting with putting some routes together and was successful. That being said I want to delete these test routes from my 765T. Can't seem to be able to do it. I can delete these routes from the "Custom Routes" area but they remain in the "My Data" file. I connected my unit to my laptop and opened explorer but I cant find these files.

Bulletproof nuvi
Want a bulletproof Garmin? Pick up a Nuvi 500. I just got one and I can't say enough about it. It's waterproof, and rugged. Like an idiot, I trusted my $200 unit to a $2.38 bike mount from ebay. Needless to say, while riding my bike down a nice steep road, I hit a bump, the unit popped off the ball and slid face down for 300 yards. 2 days in my possession... Bleah....

Exactly how GPS calculate routes?
I have been using the Garmin 660 and 760 with the original maps for a while to route myself home using the freeways. It has always calculated the same route using the same freeway exit north of my home. I am now using a Garmin 1490T with the most updated map. The 1490T have been exiting me 1 exit south of my home. I don't get it. I have all three Garmins set at fastest time, same avoidance, etc.
Just to rehash some old stuff re: audio content, POILoader & sox
Since I'm dying to exploit my nuvi 500, I have been trying for days to get audio to work on it instead of the useless "bings" when approaching notification points. I have done my research, albeit the posts were close to 2 years old when written. They did state though that sox v14.0.1 worked and that sox v14.2.0 did not.
Striving to make the NYC Metro area project the best.
