POI's ? (how do I turn them on?)

I'm new to this, so be kind. I just purchased a 1450t and installed some POI's I downloaded from the POI factory.
How do I know or how do I turn them on? I drove by a couple of POI's that I installed to test them and nothing happen. I checked my Garmin and the POI setting is set, so what else is there? What should it do when I'm by one?

Your manual says:
"You must have proximity points loaded to adjust the proximity points settings."
You have done that and I suppose you have gone to
Tools > Settings > Proximity Points > Proximity Alerts and checked the Custom POIs box.
You should get a dong unless you have the sound turned down way low or muted.
