Just got the new big screen Garmin (and love it... mostly) Read the battery recall posts and this is closely related.

Charged new unit for 6 hrs. Used it for an hour on trip and it began to weaken (bars dropped) so I plugged it into the lighter socket for rejuvenating - 20 seconds later it was black screen - gone. Tried to re-charge at home and it was hopeless. No response.

Is anyone else experiencing screen freezes with nuvi 13xx and 14xx units?

A few days ago I "upgraded" my 1490T from 4.40 to 4.50. Today while atempting to navigate a 45 mile route it locked up about a dozen times. On the way home I did not use it in navigation mode and it still locked up so I just shut it down.

Every so often, my 855 reboots upon start up in the morning.

Most of the time, it will just come on fast and let me start navigation. But about 2-3 times in the past 10 days, it has reboots on start up only, when it says loading maps etc. it take about 2 minutes and says the agree screen. and then its OK.

anyone know the answer

I would like to know how the Navteq traffic reports work.
Where does Navteq gather their info from; do they get the reports from the Highways Dept. or radio stations or what.
Do they have their own FM transmission stations? I can't see them opening their own station in every city you get a traffic report from.

I'm trying to copy the mp3 files for the rest stops to my computer, so I then can put them in my pois file as an alert. The issues is, when I click on the mp3... it will play or let me load it to a playlist but I can not save the file. Any ideas?

My Garmin Nuvi 760 works fine for a year but recently lost its sound. I can only get sound if I plug in a headphone. Do you think this is a hardware issue?

How does Garmin calculate arrival time?

It just shocks me that it's always correct.

I drive 40 miles to work each day.
I travel 30 of it on a rural highway.

Traffic is minimal, so I set my cruise control at 12 MPH over the speed limit.

But when I turn my GPS on in my driveway, it gives me the arrival time, and that arrival time is accurate.

If my Garmin Nuvi has lost it's software, can I load it somehow ? I don't know how the software got missing, however will webupdare or some other procedure restore my software / maps ?

When I go with the default distance on the Red Light Camera file I get alerts on parallel streets. Each POI file is in separate folders on the SD card. I don't change the name as it comes from here. I have some POI files that are TourGuide, but they are in their own folders. Is there something embedded in the Red Light Camera file that causes this? I am using a Nuvi 265WT.

I'll be using the HD on my own car most of the time, but part of the reason I bought it is so I can troubleshoot any error codes that may come up on my own car as well as those of my fiancee's car and also her mother's car.

My Garmin nuvi 660 does not talk anymore. I don't know what to do. I find looking at the screen for directions is distracting while driving. Any solution to this problem?

Even after last firmware upgrade, the traffic icon turning grey or not showing up at all still exists on my Nuvi 765t. It was better after the firmware upgrdae but now again turning grey or not showing up at all. I think it turned worse after updated the extras e.g some m-chip update and some other updates after firmware.

Its a pain, driving somewhere, ask wife to put in address, she touches screen and warning lock up comes on. Is there a way to disable the key lock up while driving feature?

I currently have a Nuvi 760. The battery just died in it. I been wanting to get lifetime traffic but the cheapest price I can find is at least $50. So if I was going to replace the battery myself (yep checked my serial number not on recall) that will cost me at least $20.

I recently downloaded and installed the "beaches" ppoi fro my garmin nuvi 255w. When i connect the 255 to my puter i can see the file was intalled albeit as a gpi file. My question is when i lookin in my Points of interest on the unit there is nothing there that says beaches. I want to see what beaches are on there but i cannot....

Has anyone else had a problem with the GPS voice sounding garbbled after starting the car and the power adapter plugged in?

The problem seems to go away if I turn the GPS off and then restart it. I minor issue, but still, am I the only one?

Any know solution?

keeping the "Harley Davidson Dealers for US & Canada" POI updated. Just finished a 2200 mile R/T to Spokane and the POI came in handy!

Having friends from Alaska and PA traveling in to town in October for some riding. As always, we plan to make stops at some of the H-D dealers for T-shirts during the ride and this POI will help.
