On Nuvi 1340, is there any way in which you can see the whole route in map form prior to departure? Just like to have some idea of the route before I leave. I will eventually get to grips with this technology.

Sure
Sure, once the route is calculated tap the green bar across the top of the map screen. Then on the turn screen that will appear, tap show map.
Tapping any of the turns shown on the turn screen will give you a map view of that turn. You can then scroll to a map view of every turn by using the up and down arrows.

When in mapview you can zoom out and see the entire route though the resolution may not be as refined as you would like.

Thanks for your guidance.
Thanks. Another mystery (to me at least) solved.
HMM, Not sure on the multiple posts
I am not sure why there are 3 posts of the same reply. Anyway - sorry for the clutter.

The zoom out method is pretty cool on a plane too (no route, Map View).
