Cannot use POI loader

I have a Garmin 260 and cannot update the POI files. When I open the loader, my Garmin is displayed. When I try to load the files, message says: not ready, cannot open card. I reloaded the Loader, installed another card and I still get the same message. The unit shows the current POI's that are loaded. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

By default, with a GPS

By default, with a GPS plugged in the first item that shows up on POI Loader's find device screen is the GPS itself. The SD Card can be accessed by clicking on the device section of the screen, which will give a drop down menu box with the SD Card as an option. Assuming that you HAVE selected the card and you're still getting the error, try reformatting the card and then run POI Loader again. If that doesn't work, the card is likely bad. It's not likely that the card slot itself will be bad, but the possibility can't be discounted either.

a few thoughts

As I understand you are trying to load POI on additional sd card? If so try a few things.

0. if you are using sd card they have write/erase protection. It is small slider on the side of card. Check if this slider is not in position "safe" or "lock" or something of this meaning. If so slide it all the way opposite direction. Sort like old 3.5" floppies.

1. connect card to computer through card reader. Can you access card then? Can you write and erase data on card? Then put card into unit and connect it to computer. It should show two additional drives in "My Computer" (in windows OS). Can you access those drives? can you read from them and write to them? Just be VERY CAREFUL and DON'T REMOVE anything that you don't know from drives as you can damage unit software. Just copy file or two onto it and then delete this file.

2. is this card formatted? Connect card through reader to comp and then (assuming windows OS) go to "My Computer", click on card icon with right mouse button and choose format. File system should be FAT (16 or 32 depending on size of card). On window that shows click start (or format) on the bottom and let it finish.

3. what is the biggest size of card accepted by your unit (can be checked with garmin). If you put too big card then unit can't use it. Solution: use smaller card or make on card partition not bigger then maximum allowed for unit and then format it.
