Help with 265W

I'm trying to load the rest area's for Michigan with an outhouse pic and a sound. When you go down the road it doesn't show the pic or play the audio. If I push on the map where I can manually select points it shows the outhouse. Am I doing something wrong? Or doesn't it do it? Thanks

First

make sure the names of the poi, bmp and mp3 files are identical except for the extension.

What POI file are you using

If you are using the stand-alone file with just the Michigan Rest Areas you may not be able to get alerts unless you make the file a TourGuide. this is because the individual state rest area files tend to have the coordinates set to the actual buildings.
The Rest Areas Combined file has the coordinates set to the entrance ramp of the rest area and will alert properly if you have properly set the alert with the manual mode of POI Loader

You will need wav file and sox.exe to get the voice alert.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 .The 265 will not play a mp3 file.

Thank you all so far!!! I have made sure that all the files have the same name (except for extension). When I tried to do it I got a msg that says unable to covert POI/Michigan_Rest_Area.wav to the proper format, therefore this audio file will not be transfered to your GPS device......

So now can you lend me any more help? Thanks!

it's not uncommon

It's not uncommon to get a bad file from someplace. Have you tried playing it in a media player?

You can use a free program call Audacity from Sourceforge to play and convert the file if need be. Do a search for Audacity to find any of several places where it can be d/led from.

Did you...

Did you download sox.exe and put it in folder where POI Loader resides?

Yes I did, In the folder I

Yes I did, In the folder I have the sox app, sox doc, soxeffect pdf, soxeffect doc, soxexam pdf, socexam doc, soxfocmat pdf and soxformat doc along with my POI files. Did I do this correct? Also I tried going down the highway today in a stretch where there is a rest area. On the top bar it said "rest area ahead" then when I got within my parameter it just played a chime noise. So I guess it halfway works.....

As far as the file for my sound, I got it from here, but when I double click on it to play it nothing happens.... think it is a bad file? Just tried it again, and it will accept the MP3 (which also will not play when double clicked) but I get error message when WAV file tries to upload....

But thank you all for all the quick responses to help me out with this issue! Greatly appreciated! Some great people here

Had that problem, deleted

Had that problem, deleted all the files and rebuilt the poi filers within a new folder using all the suggestions rcvd from here. This organized them all and took out my "trouble maker" files. All of the above fixed my 265wt issues with poi's

Clarification

I have a folder called C:Garmin. In this folder I have the "sox" files and the POI Loader executables I have another folder C:\user\Garmin\MyPOI. In this folder, I have my POI files (including icon and sound files).

If I had the "sox" files in the MyPOI folder, they would not work.

I think you misunderstood

I think you misunderstood the instruction. SOX.EXE goes into the same folder holding the POILoader.EXE file. It does not go into the folder holding your CSV or GPX poi files.

Ok....Lets see if I can lay

Ok....Lets see if I can lay this out so I can see if I have them in the right place or where they need to be.... Im unfamiliar to where the poiloader.exe file is, did a search for it and cpu comes up empty

Here is the path to the folders/files

Libraries
..Documents
...POI (this is a folder I made to put POI files in)

In my POI foler I have 2 saved folder for Map Source for my GPS's. Then I have my graphic, excel sheet with rest area cord., my rest area sound, and then then the above mentioned Sox files. So there are 13 files in this folder.

Thank you all so much for the help! My father does too since he is the one that really wants these rest area's. He's getting old and REALLY needs to know where they are wink

If you have windows go to my

If you have windows go to my computer, click on local disk (c),click on garmin folder and paste the sox.exe there.Review http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 for doing poi files.

Let's try this

We are assuming that you are running on a PC. Regardless, the process is similar.

I am going to suggest that you do Beginners Exercises 1, 2, and 4 from the FAQ section. You get to the FAQs by clicking on the "faq" link in the upper right hand pane of this window, then selecting "All FAQs (alphabetic list of questions)" or go directly thru this link http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6654. (hold down the shift key when you left click and a new window will open - that will let you keep this reply open also)

Once you have been through these three exercises you will have gotten a manual, backed up your GPS and have installed and run POI Loader.

Now we need to deal with "sox". A good tutorial by charlesd45 is at
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730
(remenber to shift - left click to keep this reply open)

As you will have already downloaded POI Loader, you will start with "step b" of his tutorial.

Let us know how you are progressing.

THANKS!

Man I must need to go back to hooked on phonics! Guess I was in so much of a hurry I just saw create POI folder and went right to the end lol. Ok I put that SOX exe in my Garmin folder! Thank you all for all your help! I love the functionality and all the POI's that are on here, just need to get more familiar with how to impliment them to the GPS and make them work! Thank you all for your patience and helping me through this! when I get my hands on my gps next I'll see what I can't do with all my new knowledge/ or the lack there of! Thanks again everyone grin
