School Zone Speed Cameras

For the school zone speed cameras, is the speed limit the same 24/7 and 365 days a year or does it change to a lower speed limit during school hours?

!

Great googala-moogala, that's a rackload of new cams!

Does this mean you also submitted them to Miss Poi? She has already added the (two) new ones in the 12200 blk of NH Ave & it's in the release dated today.

Do you happen to know if each of these locs represent two new cams (one in each dir as in the case of NH Ave, which is also a dual roadway with a median)?

dobs108.. I know the speed changes during school days/hours, but I honestly don't know if the cams change their capture speed as well .. good question!

Not a complete list

I can immediately identify three cameras not on this list. Where did the list come from?

3 New Cams?

You mean 3 new cams?
I wondered where the list came from myself. I already looked for a MC press release or something on the MC site, but didn't find one.

I'm looking at the MC cam site's Google .kml file and comparing it (trying to) with Miss Poi's latest list, but it's a pain because the MC coordinates are sometimes way off of actual. But the file does show the above locations in the post.

Were Locations Reported to Miss Poi?

Someone must go to these locations to get good coordinates, direction, and speeds for these cameras. This is not something that can be done in Google Earth. Miss Poi needs the help of local people!

Agree

Agree. I gave her the info for NH Ave. but I'll rarely get near some of the others, myself.

Here is my list of locations that are in the MCPD kml file and not in the latest Sep 1 Poi Factory file, and are in addition to the above list:
5000 Block of Sangamore Rd
7700 Block of Brookville Rd
1300 Block of Dale Dr
2400 Block of Seminary Rd
2500 Block of Seminary Rd
1600 Block of Forest Glen Rd
10000 Block of Cedar Ln
5600 Block of Grosvenor Ln
3100 Block of Plyers Mill Rd
2800 Block of Plyers Mill Rd
8600 Block of Bells Mill Rd
8700 Block of Bells Mill Rd
10800 Block of Gainsborough Rd
4900 Block of Strathmore Ave
11500 Block of Gainsborough Rd
10000 Block of Glen Rd
9600 Block of Glen Rd
1800 Block of Arcola Ave
2000 Block of Arcola Ave
1900 Block of Arcola Ave
3200 Block of Randolph Rd
13000 Block of Parkland Dr
13100 Block of Parkland Dr
13500 Block of Travilah Rd
4600 Block of Aspen Hill Rd
14500 Block of Stonebridge View Dr
14600 Block of Stonebridge View Dr
9600 Block of Centerway Rd
9700 Block of Centerway Rd
10100 Block of Apple Ridge Rd
2100 Block of Wynnfield Dr
9800 Block of Apple Ridge Rd
12800 Block of W. Old Baltimore Rd
12700 Block of W. Old Baltimore Rd

I really don't know if these are new or even currently operating but I'm reasonably sure from the kml file coords that they are not ones already reported.

Consider it and the OP list a 'heads up'? I have a file with the MCP coords if anyone wants it (send me a message).

From some of the addresses they are mobile speed van locations and not fixed camera locations.

I only want fixed locations

I only want fixed locations in the file and I don't go off of large lists unless they have been visually verified by users.

Miss POI

Got it

Miss POI

Understand & agree. My earlier submission for NH Ave was a verified fixed cam loc, btw.

Box Car- My wife also informed me that two or possibly all 3 on Arcola Ave were van locations ... if you have some confirmed locations for vans only, I'd be interested in them for use as another file. Email me if you have them?

I rarely used the cam files until they put the cam up near my house, so now I'm thinking it's prudent. And a mobile only file makes sense to me if they are as regular as my wife suggests.

Alrighty then

I think the OPs list came from this article:
http://www.gazette.net/stories/09012010/montnew201127_32538....

As I mentioned, the NH Ave cameras are fixed (on poles) and I gave Miss Poi the speed & coords, and it is in the 09-01 POI Factory camera file.

Now, as to the others.. as the article says they will rotate 12 cameras through the 24 new locations. I passed by the JFK high school location today, and while there is NO pole, going eastbound there IS some sort of box mounted lower than I would have expected, with plexiglas openings and unlike other MC cams I have seen. Cleverly placed on the eastbound side of a telephone pole. White lines are painted on the roadway as well.

I'm going to try to get back to that location when I get time, but regardless of a decision that these are fixed or mobile, I'm adding them to my extra 'mobile' file when I get the speed info & better coordinates.

Speed Camera Accuracy

Let's hope they don't use the same contractor as in Prince George's County! I'm not looking forward to the speed cameras they are planning for US1 near the Univ. Maryland Campus (at least I don't drive a bus).
