My 1490 does not alert me when approaching a red light camera. The proximity alert feature is checked for my custom POIs. I have searched around for a setting I may have missed, but cannot find one. Does anyone have any ideas on what I may be missing?

Have you done...

Have you done Tools > Settings > Proximity Points and then made a chioce?

You can download a manual by going to http://www8.garmin.com/support/userManual.jsp

.

Are you talking an audio, or visual alert?

Thanks for the link to the

Thanks for the link to the manual. Both audio and visual do not work. I only have one choice for alerts and yes, the proximity alert box is checked.

How Was It Loaded?

How did you load the red light camera file into the nuvi? Did you use Poi Loader?

You should get the standard bong alert with the Red Light camera file.If you are trying to get a voice alert you will need to use wav file and sox.exe since the 1490 does not play mp3.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 .When you look under extras and touch custom pois last you do see the file correct?

Do you get audio on other things? That is, is the audio level turned up?

I did use the POI loader and

I did use the POI loader and yes, regular nav directions are audible. Just nothing from the proximity alert feature.

Did you download the file

Did you download the file from this site? When you touch where to,extras, and touch custom poi do you see the file?I noticed you have not been a member long enough to get the Redlight file unless you paid the small fee to the site for it.That is why I am asking did you download from Poi Factory?

I got this file from another site. However, it works fine on my StreetPilot 2720. Yes, I do see the file under custom poi files.

more to check

Seeing how you got the file from somewhere else, do you have both an icon and sound file? The file names must match with the exception of the extension. The icon must end in .BMP and the sound file in .WAV. If you are using Windoze, make certain you are not hiding common file extensions as double extensions are the most common failure reason.

Once you have determined you have all the pieces-parts correct, did you load the file using manual and set a distance or speed alert? If the file name fits the keyword list in POILoader Help, an automatic alert will be generated unless you override it in manual.

Does the file have the word "redlight" or the word "camera" in the file name?
