Orderly?

Couple of things i want to do with my gpx file. Can't seem
to figure out how, other than using an editor, not sure if that will work either. I have 3 categories in Favorites. All Favorites, Address Book and Small Eqip. Repair. First off I would like all my contacts in All Favorites to be alphabetically rather than sorted by mileage. Second, i don't want Address Book or Small Eqip. Repair but if i delete them they also delete in All Favorites which of course i don't want.

Thanks in advance

You can't sort them alphabetically. They will always be sorted by distance.

You will need to go in and remove the category designation for "Address Book" and "Small Equip Repair" (or whatever) in order to remove those.

This Sound Like A Job For EPE

Open your gpx file in Extra POI Editor, open options or setings 'M-Columns', don't forget to have category column, tell EPE to save gpx as 'M-Column' csv file. Open csv file using Excel and sort by poi description. If you want to sort by catagory than poi description, click data from menu, sort by, select 1st sort as category accending, 2nd sort as poi description accending, then run.

All will be sorted. Edit as need be.

.

Does it need to be put back through EPE into a gpx file?

Out of sorts

You can sort them in any way you want. But the GPS (Garmin) will display them based on distance with the closest one first.

I think that the only way you can edit Favorites is to pull up the list, select the one you want to delete and delete it. At least that works with my 750.

Also, I have only one category in my Favorites list. Do you mean Custom POIs instead of Favorites?

Edit them on your GPS.

On your GPS go into the Address Book and select each entry, then touch Edit, then scroll down and touch "Change Category", then touch Address book to remove the check mark. When you have changed all entries the Address Book will go away but the entries that were there are back in your Favorites. Do the above again for your other category.
As others have already stated the sort order is by closest to you(if you have Satellite lock).

Thanks phillyguy19020

I was afraid someone would give me this advice, was hoping i had missed something before i use EPE. I know i'll make a mess of it, oh well.

Means i've already tried that. If I remove the categories I also loose those favorites in ALL FAVORITES. If i try to edit the favorite in the specific category, it doesn't give me a place to put it.

Then you did it wrong.

If you follow my instructions exactly then it does work! You don't need a place to put it, it already is in Favorites too.

I have all my favorites with categories and can touch all favorites and they will show as well touching by category. The instructions above will work.If you edit a favorite with a category you can just UN-check it and select another category. Also you have new at bottom of screen to make your category.

May help if you put step by step the process you are using for categories for favorites.

Works

Thanks charlesd45
Never thought of unchecking all of them from the address book. The address book then disappears, but they stay in Favorites. Now i'll try EPE as phillyguy19020 suggested to do them in alphabetical order.

Thanks ALL

Right. That's what I said.

"Remove the category designation".

That is what I read her to say

Still, This illustrates how each of can read something and put a different interpretation on it.

What is so good about this forum is that members will keep trying different ways of saying something until it works.

Some people just won't listen.

As a friend of mine with hearing aids says, he listens OK, he just sometimes has a problem with understanding. That's my problem sometimes, so let's not be too hard on speed2.
