JPG file size and transferring favorites

Hello,

Me again. What are the recommended jpg file sizes for attaching to my favorites?

I am almost afraid to aske the second part of this post, since I searched and found quite the long list of comments on the subject. I want to copy my favorites to my mom's gps, what is the best way? They are both 255W.

Thanks!!

Picture size

Your screen is 480x272 pixels so you don't need any bigger than that. To keep the picture proportional many times you have to resize it close 480 wide and crop the height to 272. Or you can just keep the whole picture and resize to 480 wide or anything close and you GPS will figure out how to display it. But pictures that are 480x272 will fill the screen completely in Picture Viewer.

Use Mapsource to transfer from your GPS and then connect the other GPS and Transfer to your mom's.

No reason to be afraid, that wasn't so scary!

.

A simpler way is to just copy and paste the .GPI file from one, to the other...

Oops

Yep, it's the .gpx I was meaning, not the POI Loader's .gpi...

Thanks for the correction.

Then copy it over

You can do as Juggernaut said but the file you are looking for is on your GARMIN drive at -

x;\GARMIN\GPX\current.gpx

connect via the USB cable to your GPS, copy the above file from your GPS to your hard drive. Then switch to your mom's GPS and paste the file from your hard drive to the same folder on her GPS.

Your routes, tracks and waypoints will all show up on hers.

Got it, Thanks. Is there a

Got it, Thanks. Is there a way to look at my gps while it's connected to my computer? I find myself making changes and wanting to see them without "safely removing hardware" and restarting the gps.

Oh, and some of my jpgs aren't appearing in picture viewer....any ideas why?

Mapsource

When/if you update your map, choose to install to the GPS and computer. That'll add Mapsource to your computer. (Your nuvi 255W, if quite new, may be due for a free map update--have you registered your nuvi and checked to see if a map update is being offered? Note that the free update is a time-sensitive offer.) If you have updated your map but only updated the GPS, you can probably redownload the update and have it install to the computer.

The other way to get Mapsource for free is by following this procedure. Good luck:

Extra POI Editor

We are lucky to have a member that has made a great program for us to work with. We refer to it as EPE for short in a lot of threads. You can use it to load your waypoints from your current.gpx file while it is connected to your computer, edit them and save them back.

You can download it here.

Mapsource

My 255W is about a year old. I must have just downloaded the map update to the gps only.

The 255W I am giving to my Mother is brand new, I haven't yet registered it. Guess I better do that! I can download to both for that one.

Thanks!

Good luck. When you start the map update process, click the Install Options button. That's where the Install to Computer option resides. The default setup is for a map update to only update the GPS.

Oh great

Gee THANKS. Now I have a whole NEW toy to figure out and play with....LOL it's very cool!

I just downloaded it, and took a quick look. I opened my favorites....any way to see the photos there?
