One of the reasons that I bought an Android tablet years ago was because they were less expensive than iPads and many/most of the wifi Android tablets had GPS in them. That allowed me to use the Android Garmin StreetPilot Onboard app without needing data.

More recently, the Android Garmin StreetPilot Onboard app is gone, but the iOS Garmin StreetPilot Onboard still appears to be available.

Successfully downloaded it. Have yet to try it with my nuvi 3597

Will the Garmin or other smartwatches navigate, without a data plan, on their own, without being tethered to a smartphone? Do most have the means to add a micro SD card for additional memory?

As posted above, I am wondering what some of the best things are that you can do with your phone when you don't have data. I started a thread in the travel story sub-forum, but for this I will focus on the actual apps, etc. Here are a few things to start with:

-Take photographs.

-Listen to music stored on the smartphone.

Maybe tied to release of iOS 12. Downloaded and no apparent issues.

Is it for real or a scam?

Does anyone know of a way to load the Redlight Cameras POI files on an Android Auto compatible smartphone map app e.g. Google Maps, Waze etc?

If so, pointers to the app and instructions on how to load the POI data would be appreciated.

Just wondering if there's a way (besides using the supplied USB cable) to wirelessly transfer specific stills and videos from my DashCam 55 to my Android 7.0 smartphone, using the Android VIRB app? I would be interested in "Saved Photos" "Travelapse Vids" and "Saved Videos". For "on scene" evidenciary purposes.

I final switched over from Chrome to the Edge Browser. Once they got it so you can used it on your Android tablets and phones I made the change. Syncing across devices seem to be working well. Still not a lot of extensions available, but more then in the past. One problem found so far. Here on POI Factory when I post a link it is not highlighted.

I like small form factor smartphones. I already have an iPhone SE. I hope Apple will release a refresh in a similar for factor. I've also been wanting to transition to Android, but I can't find any premium end phones in a small form factor.

Any recommendations?

It's been quite a while since I've been active on POI Factory but I'm back again with a problem. Although I still use Garmin devices I have grown to love Waze, particularly for urban driving, as it seems to be really good at helping you to avoid traffic jams, accidents, and the local constabulary.

Really the only reason for me is to grab the 5% reward through 3/31. Last year, Discover was doing $5/transaction, max 10. That was kind of interesting, even if you paid $1.06, they gave you $5. Seems like the cc co's want to incent users to use their phones...

it's the full retail thing....seems like many colleagues have embraced the full retail thing. iPhone X sold out in 1 minute, and it's a $1149 phone? I cannot pay $800+ for a phone, per my conscience.

I was thinking that as nice as smartphone navigation is these days, it is also a hassle when you are navigating and need to use the smartphone for something else. Are there any devices currently that will allow you to "cast" your app to another display? That would allow the Google Maps display to be on the dash while the smartphone was doing something else.

Updated my 7+, iPad Pro,and my wife's 6S+ to 11.1 yesterday. Everything is working OK. Hope my battery life improves on my 7+.
