What does the smartphone link do?

It provides enhanced traffic services to your Garmin by utilizing data from your smartphone

Downloaded with no problem

SmartLink has been out for quite a while now. It is available on several GPS units. It was first available on Android phones, but has now become available on iPhones. SmartLink is better than using the traffic function that is built into units that offer traffic using the GTM60 traffic power cord that comes with the unit. Go to the App Store and type in Garmin to find the app.
