Garmin Safety Camera Software Not Worth It (Central Florida)
I tried the free 30 day trial of the Garmin Safety Camera software on a nuvi I am considering buying used from a friend. The only reason I'm buying the unit is for red light and speed zone camera enforcement. They are being installed everywhere here in Florida.

Sioux City Ia, Here come the speed cameras
Our city council just approved speed cameras on the interstate. Apparently it was a matter of the city put them in and got the revenue, or the state was going to. Either way it's still a civil enforcement of what should be a criminal infraction, and a money grab.

Interesting! Hopefully folks knowing about the location of these cameras will NOT speed through the yellow/red light expecting the light to stay RED for the other drivers! What are your thoughts?

Cameras in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois
I live in Champaign, Illinois, and according to this database and others that I have seen, there are no red light cameras or speed cameras in my area. I am inclined to trust this information. However, I see many traffic cameras in the area and what makes me curious is what looks like flash bulbs mounted on the main arm of the signal below, usually next to the signal lights.

Police Department Budgets
There was an interesting story in Calgary regarding a reduction in the budget for the police department. The spokesman then made the comment that they hoped to make up the loss thru revenue from the speed on green cameras. I wonder if he realized what he was admitting to.
