Smart Cameras?

Interesting! Hopefully folks knowing about the location of these cameras will NOT speed through the yellow/red light expecting the light to stay RED for the other drivers! What are your thoughts?

Regards,

Norm

11,000 Population.. Over 6,000 Tickets

Marysville population is a little over 11,000.. yet the news article stated, ie: "Last year Marysville police said they wrote more than 6,000 red light citations."

I'm just asking myself if there's any correlation between the number of tickets written and the city tax(s) base. After all, we've heard on the news that California and some of its city's are either going broke.. or already bankrupt.

Tis nothing more than a thought from this side of the computer.

I'm not really lost.... just temporarily misplaced!

Highway traffic

Highway 20 and Highway 70 join here and all the traffic from both go right through Marysville. The town itself is broke - lots of old, closed buildings. There's a LOT of traffic going through that little town and I'm sure they make a fortune on the red light cameras.

It's interesting to note that Caltrans operates 17 lights in the area and said they won't allow this to be installed at any of the intersections controlled by lights that they maintain.

I've traveled through Marysville many (many!) times and I'm always aware of the red light cameras located there. If I was spaced out and failing to remember them, Jack will surely remind me to be careful. smile

On a side note, Marysville also has "No Cruising" signs posted in some areas. Very odd.....

The town was named for Mary Murphy who was a Donner Party survivor and who is buried in a local pioneer cemetery. Her husband and brothers-in-law founded the town after striking it rich mining for gold.

Great idea for the US.

I think that is a good thing especially in the US. When I was down in Chicago I realized that when crossing a street once a light goes red, the other light INSTANTLY goes green. This does not happen in Canada as there is a 1 to 2 second pause before the light will change for the other direction of traffic.

Hope this is implemented more throughout the states.

Kind of Funny

Now days they have come up with smart phones, smart cameras and god only knows what else. Has anyone thought of how to develop a smart society, or even more challenging, a smart government?

That is good. I hoped it work because this is saving live

instead of making money.

most of the lights I go through have done this. some of the light do it for changes in right of way, e.g. left turn arrow, 2 secs, then next green light.

2 seconds

In my area of Tennessee there is an "all red" interval of 2 seconds at EVERY change.

Most of the lights where I

Most of the lights where I live turn green as soon as the other side turns red. However, there are a few intersections that have a 2 second delay for the green light - ones that were prone to accidents.
They have also started to install red light cameras at a few busy intersections now too.

Safer?

What the heck does "No Cruising" mean?

As far as the smart RLC keeping the other light RED, its the first thing I've read about RLCs that actually attempts to make the intersection safer (while still making money).

2 second

regardless of whether or not your town has traffic cameras, you should ask your city engineer to consider a two second "all red" for traffic lights
