Not all thieves are stupid

A couple of weeks ago a friend told me that someone she knew had their car broken into while they were at a football game. Their car was parked on the green which was adjacent to the football stadium and specially allotted to football fans. Things stolen from the car included a garage door remote control, some money and a GPS which had been prominently mounted on the dashboard.

Searching FAQs

Whenever I come across a question from someone, my first thought is to point them to a FAQ, if one exists. But, it is hard sometimes to locate an appropriate FAQ.

Ever since the thread
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/37073
appeared, I have been trying to refine my searches of FAQs using Google Search.

Street you are driving on Partie deux

Often I am on highway that is part of several named routes.
In my town we have SE Third street, SR17 and SR94. I had borrowed a Magellan that displayed all three names while not in navigation mode. I can't remember the model number. That was the only feature that I liked on that brand.

Reporting Errors

I assume this has been asked, but couldn't find it easily by searching, who do we contact concerning a unit (Nuvi 50LM) making a mistake?

As I am still "playing around", I had selected a golf course. The unit had it where it belonged, the map was accurate and it was giving me correct "text" directions, I-71 to Route 82.

This week we're recognizing WAASup, eh?!

He's another sharp Canadian, who is happy to share his knowledge of things such as tracklogs, EPE, HTML, Windows 8 upgrade deals, and current Garmin models. And last month, he added POI files for Five Guys Burgers in Canada.

Thanks for all you do, WAASup!

This week we're recognizing dconsolla!

Last year he volunteered to take over the Hampton Inn file. Since then he has done a great job of bringing it up to date, adding locations outside the USA and keeping the file current.
He also maintains the AAA office locations for the USA and several other files including Outback Steakhouse.

Thanks for all you do, dconsolla!

Windows 8 Pro will be available for $40.

For a limited time, Microsoft will offer upgrades to Windows 8 Pro for a flat $40, as long as you're using Windows XP or later. That will be the download price and if you want the DVD it will be $70.

Don't see any detail on Windows.com yet but details can be found here:

Word Processor that will read/open downloaded CSV and GPX files.

I don't have MS Word and am to cheap to get it.To much $$$! I have AbiWord which is free and is very compatible with Windows. But it won't open CSV or GPX files. Does anyone know of another good word processor or a solution to this issue? Or maybe there is a way to use Abiword so it will open these files up? Thanks!

The countdown begins (DNS Changer Malware)

Well tonight at 12 midnight EDT the FBI will disconnect the substitute server they put online. See:

There are still about 45,600 U.S. users that are infected and about 250,000 worldwide.

Fantasy voices and phrases

If it could be done as a TTS voice (and I believe it cannot by us), who would you like to hear as a voice and what phrase would you create?

I would like Troy from Swamp Wars. The phrase is him warning me of a upcoming deer crossing.

"Roll down the windows and get out the guns! We got deer!"

(Yes, I know that the deer crossing is not a TTS phrase)

July 9 could be 'Internet doomsday' for some

July 9 could be 'Internet doomsday' for some (so check your PC or Mac).

This has come up previously but the FBI was involved in preventing the problem until now(Monday July 9 2012).

Read about it and check your computer if you wish:

Red "Updated"

What does the red "Updated" mean on the 'Recent Posts" view?

There are no new replies, and it does not show up on my 'unread posts'. I did a search of the FAQs but found nothing.
