New Car Options

Almost all of the new model cars and trucks have available options for navigation systems. I must admit some of the capabilities and integration points are tempting. I still have not seen any with the ability for the user to add POI and update maps for a reasonable cost. I may have missed something as the capabilities of the offered systems change quite often.

new GPS idea that could be potentially very useful

After my previously posted here unpleasant experience of being pulled over by a cop while driving lawfully on a highway, and being falsely accused of "swevering", I have thought about getting a dash cam to protect myself.

Seeing these videos make me even more motivated to get one:

Is this real?

Go on Google Maps. Type in: 52.376552,5.198303 and you'll see a man dragging a body into a lake.

POI Suggestions for newbie

Can anyone who lives in Minnesota recommend some POI files that will be helpful for finding things that someone who knows nothing about Minnesota will find helpful.

In particular, the Twin Cities Metro Area.

Thanks.

Phony Speed Cameras in MD

There is an article in the Washington Post this morning concerning the town of Laurel, MD where the local police have installed a decoy speed camera - a traffic camera box with only sandbags in them. It was installed near Laurel Elementary School. The real one was installed elsewhere. DC, Prince George's & Montgomery County say that none of theirs are fakes.

New to the site and could use some guidence

Greetings and Hello to all.

anyone subject of a fishing traffic stop before?

I was on a road trip recently with a friend, driving at the speed limit on cruise control in a new rental car with less than 5k miles on the odo. There was hardly any traffic so it was a nice drive for a while.

New member / Garmin 1490LMT

Hi,
I recently purchased a Garmin 1490LMT. I have been looking for a Garmin for awhile and ran across this one brand new for 110.00. I hope it is an OK model.
There looks like a lot of information shared on this forum and I will be browsing around more. Looking forward to reading and gathering information.

April GPS Deals & Bargains Thread

Deals have been few and far between for the last couple weeks. Finally a couple worth posting.

Get rid of your old GPS

Aside from donating your old GPS or smart phones, there are places you can get cash, gift cards, or store credit.

I was wondering if anyone knew of programs that give cash or credit for used GPS units without having to go through the rigors of ebay.

One I found was the Amazon program -

Marriot Properties

When I loaded my POI's for the week tonight, an error was found in Marriott Properties on line 1623 (approximately).

Just a heads up.

For Those Concerned About TurboCCC

Several weeks back, I received an email from TurboCCC. He is well. His absence is due to new employment beginning in early 2012 to which he has devoted his full energy, leaving him little time to work on his GPS projects.

I did not post earlier because I hoped -- and still hope -- that TurboCCC might drop in to say "Hello" to all of us here who are his good friends.
