Memorial Day weekend

Anyone have any travel planning for this coming Holiday.also here in Ohio Starting JULY 1 speed limit will go up from 65 to 70/mph

Law enforcement gearing up for the week end.

In Illiois

Quote:

The state police say they're going to be out on the roads in force and will strictly enforce the laws regarding speeding, distracted driving, seat belts and drunken driving.

During last year's Memorial Day weekend, the state police issued nearly 3,200 speeding tickets and about 180 for driving under the influence and just under 1,500 tickets for safety restraint violations.

I expect to see a policeman everyday on the road out to Walmart this weekend. They squint to check for seat belts. I squint right back.

They're doing it piecemeal instead of raising the speed limit along the entire length of the highways. That should create nice little speed traps in the gaps around areas like Findlay, Lima and Columbus. Also, on freeways like US-24 and Route 2, the speed limit will remain 65. They really shouldn't bother raising the limit if they aren't going to do it right.

Kansas City, Here We Come!

Starting a long weekend tomorrow, I will be heading from Cedar Rapids, IA to Kansas City. Just finished updating a variety of POI files for my Garmin Nuvi (and Delorme PN) and ready to head out. For all of you who are travelling, TRAVEL SAFE. Your taking care of YOU also helps takes care of ME... and vice versa.

Anyone

Anyone planning on driving north of Seattle on I-5 may want to consider alternatives as a bridge has collapsed over the Skagit River between Mount Vernon and Burlington.

We got our daughter home from college!

Our daughter arrived home for the summer!
Her trip was via bus connecting to a train, and given the choice between a bus leaving at 6:30 (AM) and one leaving at 10:30 (AM), she and her roommate decided to take the early one, and being college students decided the best way to do that was to just stay up all night!

Oh to be that young again!

It's great to have her home.

surprised

I was kind of surprised this past weekend, we drove a little over 100 miles to where my son lives and even though we took the back roads the traffic was really light, it seemed more like a normal day. A friend that took the interstate said traffic was abnormally light there also.

I don't know about Monday, but Sunday was just like weekday rush hour coming back home to Long Island....

Weekend

Was in Baltimore on Sunday. Went to a weird little museum at the foot of Federal Hill and then had lunch and climbed the hill for the view. Lots of people just enjoying the beautiful day.

San Antonio / New Braunfels

Went to New Braunfels and floated the Guadalupe on Friday (yes, during the storm) with my son, daughter and son in law. Temp went from 82 to 66 in 1 hour. Luckily not enough run off water into the river to make it unsafe to float.

Woke up Saturday morning to some of the hardest rain outside of a hurricane I have seen in years and we decided to pack up and go home for the rest of the holiday. Hung out together at home, did steaks, crawfish, etc all the rest of the holiday.

Had a ball
