Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – January 2016

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Having Faith!

Took a trip to the new in-laws this Christmas, just a couple of hundred miles. However they live out in the country (sometimes called the Boondocks). As we wandered along these little country roads turning Left here and Right there I said to my wife "I have faith that this GPS will get us to our destination but I am no convinced that I entered the correct location". We did get to the right place.

To CA and back

Left for San Tan Valley December 22nd to visit with our daughter and Grandchildren for Christmas.
First was a fog as we left. Then came a rainfall. We then had a headwind of about 30mph to Arizona. At a gas stop I noticed a shining part on the tire which was a nail head. Pulling it out would mean a hole to let air out so I left it in. At Payson AZ we got fog and then a snowfall at about 7000 feet and was pissed to see several cars coming at me with their lights off.
After San Tan Valley AZ we left for LA for the rest of the family. With head winds still strong,Luckily the gas prices were still under $2 so no problem even though we were doing 32mpg at 79mph.
We Arrived home JAN 2 and are now watching all the shows we recorded

Christmas in Colorado

Visit Denver and Vail a week and a half ago. Snow on the ground for Colorado and Utah.

NO miles yet!

I have yet to drive this year... Yeah, tomorrow I have some errands to run. Didn't drive the last few days of last week, either. Nice. My car did go out a couple of times as my son needed to make a couple of trips to the auto parts store (but got both his vehicles running).

I feel a trip down to Los Angeles coming up in a couple of weeks...

No Where

Issues with my Durango. Stuck at home. sad

Trip to AC, NJ

When I first got my 660 years ago, it would route me up the Eastern Shore. This is the shortest and quickest way from our home. It also has way less traffic, but more money for tolls.

But over time with the map updates, it wanted us to go up I-95. "White-knuckle" driving on this route, which this 71 yr. old does not prefer anymore. The 3597 does the same routing. I wonder if the $13 - $15 toll makes a difference, even though Toll Avoidance is turned off.

Using the Routes app works, but it seems to get confused if you deviate from the route.

Same story, this last trip and Traffic warnings were right on.

Drove around Traffic Cams

Tried out an area of Traffic Cams to see if the warnings would appear on the GPS. No voice warnings but I did get bells and a warning note.

Metricman, try choosing

Metricman, try choosing Shortest instead of Quickest. Plus, you know where you want to go, so in cases like this, I just go the way I want and eventually the b*$&h stops B*$&hing.

Western Virginia

Used my nuvi 55LMT that I got for Christmas to get the family to Bryce Resort. No snow, which was a bummer but the nuvi took us right there using larger roads. Traffic reporting was spot on and it updated the ETA perfectly. My old nuvi took us through some back roads and local mountain roads so this was a definite improvement. The new Nuvi worked just like the Waze app I had been using, but no cellular usage and no dead cellphone batteries anymore. Awesome.

Florida

Leaving for Florida. Returning the end of March.

You sure have trouble with your windmill. You need to set down and have a talk with it about the way it leaves you but always comes back.

Port Clinton, Ohio

A quick day trip to Port Clinton to hang out on a cold Lake Erie.

Interesting trip...

back home from CA yesterday. Glad we were headed north on I-15. Accident on I-15 (probably due to rain and fog) had traffic backed up for almost five miles from Hesperia through the pass.

We just chugged along with the Nuvi updating our progress smile

no driving..

it's raining today, so decided to stay home

Dive shop

To the dive shop to pick up the air tanks for this weekend's diving trip. More for ETA than the route.

On a side note, Thai Food sounds pretty good right now.

TN to TN

Was a short trip to Sevierville TN, didn't really need directions but it saved the day when we left Pigeon Forge at a peak traffic time to head home. I needed to go across traffic where I had a stop sign and the other direction didn't. I figured a right turn now was better than straight through at an unknown time, especially with a line of traffic behind me. My 2589 found a new route that actually avoided most of the traffic and dumped me out on the edge of town close to the interstate. Saved a lot of time.

Marco Island, Florida

Leaving on Monday morning for a month long vacation to Florida. Gonna use my Garmin Nuvi 3590LMT and team it up with Waze for traffic alerts.
