Trip Simulation

On my Garmin Nuvi 255W when I simulate a 16 hour trip the Garmin does the simulation in real time. How can I speed it up? Thanks.

Welcome to POI Facory

Unfortunately you cannot speed it up therefore when it asks me if I want to simulate a route I answer no.

I press the bar at the top of the screen to see the entire route and all the turns it'll take and then add vias/ waypoints if I want the unit to route me differently.

Cheers smile

When I see the detailed directions for the complete trip, I tap the line I want to review and I get a picture/view of that direction. Then I can press the down arrow to see the next picture for the next directions and so on for the remainder of the trip. Similarly, I could press the up arrow to see the previous views.

This saves a lot of time and highlights each step in the directions which I find useful in planning the trip.

If the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem quickly resembles a nail. (Maslow's Hammer)

Use Basecamp

I plot the route in Basecamp and let it figure it out. It's using the same maps as the gps so the plotting should be mostly the same as the gps plots.

It also will show all the turn by turn and the time for the trip.

May I Make A Suggestion

I noticed that you used your email address as your user name. This site has always been very respectful of privacy, but I would like to suggest that you create an alias.

Otherwise, any unregistered visitor can see your email.

Registered members can email you, on the rare occasion where it might be necessary. However, even registered users, will only see your actual email address, if you reply. Otherwise, your email is still private.

You may have to use the site's Contact link to get the site managers to change this for you.

I would also suggest that you add your make and model numberr to your signature line. This allows anyone, to see this info, even if you don't include it in the text. Each model has its own quirks and features and another user may have some valuable common experience.

Otherwise, welcome to the site.
