My first attempt at making a .bmp file crashes my POI Loader

After reading all I could about how to add .bmp icons to POI files, I decided that none of the icons depicting Harley Davidson were 'glamorous' or 'eye-catching' enough. So, I took a .jpg file of the Harley Davidson logo and shrunk it down to the approximate size of the existing icon being used and then converted that to the Microsoft.bmp format. Then I renamed it to the same name as the previous icon which went along with the POI. However every time I try to load it onto my Garmin 760 my POI LOADER program crashes in mid load. Once I have removed that file and re-installed the original icon with the same name, it will load just fine. Obviously, i've done something wrong, but I don't know how to correct it.

Anybody have any clues?

.

Did you save the BMP in 8bit 256 color? And make sure that it is 24x24 or smaller?

Pixels

Those are pixel dimensions that Mama gave you.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
