POI Loader

I have been using Garmin's POI Loader very successfully over a lengthy period to load thousands of different custom points of interest from numerous files, up to as late as yesterday.
Today, with the GPSr interface connected through the same cable into the same USB port on the computer, I get the message, "There was a problem copying the data to the data card. The device is not ready.". POI Loader identifies the same local drive initially. Yet, even using a .csv file that I successfully loaded yesterday, I get the same message.

Does anyone have a clue as to why?

My thanks in anticipation.

Your memory might be full

Open My Computer and right-click on your Garmin "drive". Select Properties, and it will show you the amount of used and free space.

Data card may be bad

Your data card may have bitten the dust. Try what JohnC suggested, but instead of looking at the unit, look at the data card and see if your OS recognizes and can read it. My bet is that it won't.

To verify that the card is bad, look at it on another computer or use a reader (the latter will let you verify it is the card and not the units built in reader). If the card can be read on another computer, then it is the OS on yours. If the card can be read in the card reader but not the Garmin, then the reader on the unit may be bad.

Let us know what you find out.

POI Loader

JohnC and Glenn,

Forgive me! It seems that from one computer session to the next, the local drive for my GPSr had changed from F:/ to J:/. All seems to be OK now.

Garmin loader and internal memory

OK,
so I didn't see this question elsewhere. The garmin appears as a "USB drive" when connected to my PC and using the Garmin POI loader.

Can I get rid of some of the foreign language files and therefore add more space for custome POIs into the Nuvi 350 memory size? It also looks like it came with a few MP3'3 pre-installed; can i wipe them out to create space for POI files?

New to the world of leisure-time GPS; will likely start a custom POI file for Rochester NY area since I can't seem to find one....

That has been asked many times. smile People have removed foreign language files and backed them up to their computer hard drive, freeing up space. Careful what you remove though. Don't turn your GPSr into a paperweight!!

But, POILoader locates the unit no matter what drive letter is assigned and the SD card slot is usually one letter higher. The drive letters change depending on what you have plugged into the USB slots at the time.
