Hello,
I have Nuvi 200 and have figured out how to use and create and upload poi's to the Garmin but I have a few questions if anyone knows why when the custom pois,icons,bmp in the same file for the pois they are all renamed corectly but the sound file to alert me does not work also how can you get the pois to display on the screen when you get close to there area?

OK you'll - I am definitely computer challenged. I understand the file name .csv has to be the same as the .mp3. Question - how in the world do I find out what the file name looks like for the red light POI? All I can see is Redlight-Cameras.csv. Everything I see you'll talking about is a _ (underscore) instead of a - (dash).

One thing that really bugs me about the nuvi 2xx series is the lack of a User's Manual. The Quick Start Guide is very basic and the user is left to trial and error and websites like this to learn the features.

I did some experimenting with MP3s on SD cards...and had some conversations with a helpful Garmin tech.

Turns out that the MP3s should NOT be put in subfolders (e.g. album names) in the MP3 folder on the SD card. Doing so causes some of the MP3 to not load, sometimes an entire subfolder is skipped. The results seem to be real random.

I had same issue initially updating my Nuvi 350 to with Map Update 2008. The v4.9 Firmware did not allow me to update. After reading this forum, I discovered that I needed to upgrade to v5.0 which worked great.

Map Update got to recognize the unit, but then immediately got an err message:

In my truck, I have a nice area to mount my Nuvi 350 below my radio. It is easy to use there and not on my dash. At first, I was just using the suction cup. I would make sure the cup was clean and it would have a good grip. After several days, it would eventually lose its suction and fall off. I can reattach it but it will eventually fall off again.

I noticed that the Nuvi 350 cannot be defragmented. That makes, sinse since there would be no way to do this without connecting to your PC. It cannot be done when connected to a PC either. This must be the reason why you cannot simply add a few location to your red light camera list. Your have to replace the whole file.

Still haven't gotten 'proximity alerts' functioning. Downloaded the POI from here on Illinois Rest stops. Reloaded with the POILoader with a 'custom' setting - 1500 feet proximity alert. Went to Northern Illinois over the weekend, must have passed 3 or 4 rest stops and not a single alert. Nor did it show up on my screen. Is this too big of a proximity? Any further suggestions?

I just bought a 660 and then found out that the new model, the 760, is just around the corner for the same price.

I have a bit of time to return the 660 without a penalty, so I'm wondering what others would do in my place? Keep the 660 or return it and get the 760?

After many months of accumulating Favorites in my Garmin C340, I uploaded my one free copy of their map upgrade (2008). I was shocked to find that the upload actually erased all my favorites.

I drive for a living and relied heavily on them. Now they are apparently gone! Has anyone lost theirs this way?

If so, were you able to recover them?

i did back up copy to my comp.(windoms xp home)and after this,my muvi 660 stoped working.It looks like is having problem with finding maps.I did reloaded from back up,but is no good.Maps are still there,map folder holds over 1 1/2 gig. Is it possible, my folders on Nuvi got mixed up.Help Any one PLEASE

I'm hearing a lot about this Mapsource program, and that I may be able to get it free from Garmin. What, exactly, can I do with this program, and do I need it? I have a Nuvi 650 I bought last week, it has the 2008 maps on it.

I am the proud owner of a Nuvi 360. For some reason I have a ton of "favorites", and can't delete them w/o deleting all my custom POI's, or doing them one at a time, which would be a real time burner. Does anyone know how to do this? Is there a way it can be done through getting rid of a certain file?

Just found this site searched the posts cant find an answer. my question is i just picked up a c530 garmin gps registered it looked for updates at garmin needs 2008 city navi map .ok bought map 100$ tried to load everything went ok last step was stopped with this .map data will not load without an exsisting installation of a map product you own .

I have the Garmin C340 and have downloaded the Cracker Barrel locations to my Garmin from this sight. I noticed that when using my unit and click on the food icon and type in Cracker Barrel is does not show the newer locations that I downloaded but when I go to the custom Poi's they are there. Based on this I guess the newer locations do not incorporate with what came with the 2008 Garmin Maps.

I have been adding sound/icon files to my customer POI's and wanted to know if I can do it with my favorites? I have Nuvi 660. Thanks.

I have a nuvi 660 and have never had any problems with it, until now. When I power up the unit it says “Do you really want to start up in maintenance mode?” The screen does not respond so it does not matter if I press no or yes. I have got it to respond a few times to no and it just reboots and comes back to the same screen.

I made a sound file (MP3) but how do I insert it into an existing POI file that I downloaded from here? I want to be notified when I am within a mile of the POI point.

Also, the file that I uploaded has 484 POIs, but it looks like my Nuvi 650 only has about 48 of the POIs. I uploaded it into the unit, does it not support more than 48 POIs? Do I need to put them into an SD card instead?

I want to share an experience I had this week that GPS users (especially Novices) may not be aware of.
