Garmin talk

Having my 660 held by a bean-bag on the dashboard, I've suddenly realized that a sun shade visor, wrapped around the unit, would be pretty useful: better screen's view in direct sunlight, no sunrays hitting and warming the unit... any thoughts about?

I have a Nuvi 350.
How does one make use of the SD card slot? Does it just add memory available? I was hoping to simply add a .csv file for example, and have the 350 use it. Looks like I'd have to use POILoader to add the new .csv in the usual fashion.

When plugged into a USB port, is the unit using the battery or using the power from the USB port?

I am getting ready to upload poi files to my Garmin 340.
I've never done this before.

What I'd like to know is what happens to the data thats already in the unit? For instance, if I upload a Radio Shack db, there will be both new and old entries. What happens to the locations already there? Does this new file totally overwrite the existing one or does it just add new locations?

I was web crawling looking for POI files (have I mentioned I'm getting way too addicted to this thing), and ran across a site claiming to have 77,000 school speed zones in a POI file. I thought, "That'd be cool to have."

Hey all, new to the forum and already I have a question. I've down loaded several POI locations and attempted to do the same with the Icon, well hear was where I ran into trouble. Using the POI downloader from Garmin I was able to download and save to my Zumo all the items downloaded from POI Factory, but as far as the Icons and Sounds, well no such luck.

I am confused by Garmin declaring that they do not have any authorized dealers on ebay or other auction type web sites.

I've been looking around and around, but haven't been able to figure out what the keywords in POI files mean or what they derive as defaults (at least not in all cases). "Redlight", "Speed", and "Camera" are all pretty obvious, but what the blue blazes is "GATSO" or "SPECS"? Isn't "mobile" just a little silly for something your defining as a stationary point?

Okay, I'm a newb...

I have found both locally (Best Buy) for $599.99 and $848.99. Do you think the 760 worth the $250 price difference?

I have a Garmin Street Pilot 2720 that has City Navigator North America NT v7 on it. Is it worth upgrading to the 2008 version of City Navigator?

I noticed if I was just driving, and viewing the map the intersection Rt 70 and Rt 29N shows as exit 86 on the display. The signs have it labeled as exit 25A/B.

If I was actually navigating to a location that required me to get on that exit, the number display and announce as exits 25A/B.

I recently purchased the Garmin Nuvi 310.
I am fairly new to the Garmin POI process. I have managed to compile my own custom POI with alerts and proximity warnings operating correctly that include the audible tone warning as well.

Ok, I was playing around with the nuvi and I found something that I didn't realize was there.

Ppl have asked if there was a way that you can delete all your favorites at once, and I have been saying no, as well (correct me if I am wrong) as others.

But you can. There is a "Delete All" button that will delete all your favorites and custom POIs at once, then you can just reload the POIs.

Can you listen to music using a memory card in a c330?

I know most of the topics here relate to vehicle nagigation but I was curious. Along with my c330 I have a ETrex Ledgend hand held unit. I recently comunicated with a company that has teamed up with Garmin to put out a golf distance unit. I asked them if they were developing software to download into other Garmin units. They said they were a year away, but yes they were.

When entering a new address I'm asked New York or enter State...
Is there a way for the next step to ask my default city as well?

Is there a way I can edit advanced settings? I'm looking for the regedit.

Ive had my nuvi 250w for a couple of weeks. Today while passing a major road, of which Ive passed many times in the last few weeks. I got a Red Bar on the top of my screen which said "Speed Alert 3mph" And the unit was beeping. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?????

But it is also my wifes Birthday and we are on our way out to dinner. I will report more ASAP

I created a 4-column csv file with addresses and phone numbers with the idea that I would add to my Garmin nuvi 660 favorites as needed for dialing.

It didn't work.

Once saved, the column-4 info (address and phone) isn't saved. I don't get it. ;-o
