c330 with v4.40 firmware?

What version does it say it is on? How did you find the version (just want to make sure that you are looking at the right place)

Ok, you are looking in the right place.

5.70 is the most recent, so i am not sure why you have 4.40 (which seems it would either belong to 340 or it is very very old).

Was it BRAND NEW in the box?

Return it and get another one and see if it says the same thing.

Brand new in the box....from a Walmart in Delaware...I'm now back in Florida.

Assuming it were old code, I would think it would let me update it, but it doesn't, so I'm thinking it has c340 code too...big question is why?

My brother purchased one also, so I'm trying to see if he has the same code on his.

Yeap, I would agree...not sure what to tell ya, sorry. Perhaps a more GPSr technical person can answer it for ya.

I told webupdate to reload it to see what it would do and the release notes it takes me too are for the c340, so guess that confirms it.

Need a guru to tell me how to overwrite that version, or more importantly, why that firmware would be on a new one to begin with.

Is it really a 330? or is it a 340 in a 330 box? Does it have TTS (where it speaks the street names)?

A source told me that the C330 was, or is being discontinued. Only Garmin could really verify that. If there are no updates for it, that stands to reason.

Everything about it is c330, except the firmware that is loaded...was hoping for TTS by virtue of the "wrong" code.

Yeah, great thought (for an old man...j/k) but if he is at 4.20 and there is a 5.70 (only released in August2007) out, it should update it to that at least. But then again, perhaps as you stated it isn't part of the webupdate anymore since it is or going to be not supported anymore.

Plus, it is weird that it lead him to a c340 page when he tried to reload it again.

Point of correction, it is currently version 4.40...anyways, tried that previous to the thread and it says "No updates available for your product."

I have a garmin c340 and the correct software version is 4.40.No updates above this for now.My 340 is new and I have done all new updates.Look on the back of you unit by serial number and it should have the model number.

I agree 4.40 is current for the c340, but I have a c330 and it is loaded with v4.40. I'm beginning to think someone may have somehow loaded the c340 software on it then returned it when they didn't get the result(s) they expected.

Dropped techsupp a web e-mail last night, so maybe they can tell me what's going on. Will update when I resolve this.

Curious to see how this comes out.The c330 I would think would have the 4.40 software like the 340 they are almost the same .

The latest version for the C330 is V5.7 as stated earlier - which I believe came out in August 2007

If you suspect it has been previously returned, did you buy it as a refurbished / open item?

Bought as new....after researching this further on some other GPS forums, I see this v4.40 on a c330 mentioned back in Sept 2005.

What bothers me is I can't update to the current v5.70....hoping techsupp comes back with something in the next day or so.

The latest update 5.70 for c 330 came out Aug 17 2007.The c340 latest update is 4.40.I thought they were both the same.Have you tried to go to http://www8.garmin.com/support/download.jsp and sign in and go to additional software and load from there to your computer then to your Garmin unit instead of using the web updater?

You must have a c340 disguised as c330.I would think if you give the the serial number to Garmin support they should have the answer.

when I registered it on mygarmin, it classed it as a c330 based on the serial number. my brother confirmed his is the same, we both purchased last Friday from the same location. I'm sure I'll get an answer, just hope it's the one I want....a solution.

No one really knows, we are hoping that the Garmin support will give some clues, if not answers.

I just bought the C330 from Wally world. Went to Garmin's website , Downloaded the firmware file, then installed it! Do not use the updater software!

What version did you have before the update?

I believe it was Ver 4.40. I just bought it two weeks ago. I checked Garmin for firmware updates and ran them. Also did a friends that was even older version. Download the file and run it from the computer(you have to have the unit on it's USB cable) . Here is the website for all downloads:

It looks like you are trying to use the webupdater to load Ver 5.7. You have to manually download the program and run it. It does not go through the webupdater!

Webupdater is to keep your maps current(software)
You are trying to update firmware, it uses a different program (it's own)

2 brand new Garmin C330's, with wrong software? both from WalMart?? is the whole world turning upside down???

as was answered a couple of times, I've tried the stand-alone updater...tells me "No updates are available for your product."

The file name should be StreetPilotc330_570 which is a zip file. And once downloaded click on it. Just asking. Something doesn't sound right if it's telling you there is no updates available, it should tell you something about version and if you want to update it or over right it.

Looks like we're on the same page now....more to follow when I know something.

I will be happy to help you with this. We were notified today this is
correct. The new units are shipped with this software. It has the same information as version 5.70 and will not update.

Wonder what will happen when 5.80 comes out, which was my reply to them.

If Garmin loaded latest C330s with C340 v4.4 - I wonder if will make the latest available C330s have TTS and Street Name announcements. ???????

If so, maybe us owners of Older C330's could install V4.4 of C340 system software(firmware) !

Don't know, but here's a strange one for you, I just went to the product page and don't see the c340 on there....wait, it's on the discontinued page!

I will be happy to help you with this. They know the website needs to be updated with this information. When the software number goes up we
are unsure what your unit will go up to. I will do some addition checking and let you know. The units software whether it is 5.7 or 4.4 is current for the unit. Your unit with the 4.4 has a different board installed and that is why it has that version. Not to worry, they are the same but display different numbers.

Can you check your diag screen and see what pcb version you have? Mine is 3.

Now that is a dumb naming convention. The naming needs to be by the model and firmware release, not by the freakin' parts. No wonder we were so confused!!!!

Glad that you were able to get some info on it.

You may want to put this in FAQ in case others later on find this problem.Especially with all the c-330's going on sale Friday.
