Garmin talk

I Have a NUVI250, that came with CN2008NT. I Have City Navigator 2009 NT on an SD Card, and I'm using it with the 250, no problem.

What would happen if I copy the map data from the SD Card to the Base Unit? Would I bugger it up, or would over writing the data, replace the 2008 Maps on the GPS with the 2009 Maps, allowing me a fre SD Slot for POIs?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just bought the latest redlight camera POI file. I had some other stuff to put into my Garmin so the redlight file was not the last thing on my list. This morning I find my redlight camera proximity alarm didn't go off at a camera light that always worked with my old redlight camera file. Do I need to load the file last for it to work?

My 760 came with FM traffic service, which has been OK but limited. MSN seems to offer much more information with a "lifetime" service arrangement that seems pretty competitive.

Does anyone have any experience with the MSN services -- traffic, as well as the gas prices, weather, etc. they could share?

How can I get the list under "Custom POIs" on my GPS in alphabetical order?

Is there anywhere that I can download more voices for my Garmin 350? Anything other than what comes stock would be good, but I was thinking something like KITT's voice from the original TV series of Knight Rider.

I have been lurking around here for a while, picked up a lot of good information, and now have a question about my Nuvi 200W. I am having trouble deleting Custom POIs. I installed a folder with the following structure...

Looking for an excel spreadsheet or any other method to convert a file with ° ' " (in one column) to decimals, the file I have has over 12000 lats and longs. Each lat and long is in a separate column.

I have recently got a garmin nuvi 760 and I see that it has something called trip log. Can anyone tell me what this is and how it is used? I sure would appreciate it. Thanks

Has anyone read any reviews of the new Garmin 765T yet?

I was planning on purchasing the Garmin 770 and found out that it has the Euro maps included. For future map purchased, do you have to purchase the US and Euro maps separately. If you buy the Euro maps, do you get the new US maps with it?
I know that I will not be going back to Europe soon but would want to keep the US maps updated. You thoughts anyone.

Does anyone know how to back the Garmin Mobile XT SD Card? I have tried to copy the card, but it will not work in my phone when I use it. My reason for wanting a copy is because the card often pops out of my phone and on one occasion I lost the card. Fortunately I found it. It would be good to have a copy of the original SD card to use.

I have both nuvi 660 and 650...just wondering if the traffic alert will work on my 650 if I switch the traffic alert cord to my 650 from my 660? Any comment?

1) What do first two columns mean in a POI file in CSV format?

The cradle for the 750, and probably the same for the 8xx's, on the left side of it, there is a hole which is 2.5 in size because a jack for a cell phone headset snaps in it perfect but does nothing. Does anyone know what that port is for?

Can anyone tell me why, when I enter a new location, the resulting list of cities appears to be unsorted and displayed in a completely random fashion?

When my nuvi 680 gps is on the map screen but not navigating my current speed is displayed on the lower right hand corner. When I am navigating then the ETA is displayed. I would much rather have the speed displayed during navigation as my old speedometer does work all that well. Is it possible to change this setting? How?

With some batteries it lengthens battery lifetime if you let them discharge almost totally before recharging. Does this apply to the Nuvi 350 ?

If it's better to let the 350 discharge substantially before recharging, how many bars on the charge indicator should be remaining before one recharges ?

I may have accidently reset my Nuvi 260W and when I now turn it on it indicates "No detailed maps found that support routing. The Nuvi cannot be used without them." Getting past that screen, I checked the map settings and the "map info" button is grayed out. I just got my Nuvi in July and it has City Navigator North America NT 2009 Deluxe on it. Now I don't know how to get it back.

Should the alerts go on all the time I past a POI if I have the Proximity Set to on?
