HELP!

I have added a BP Gas Station Alert to my nuvi 200 10 times and it will not alert me. Am I stupid? Does the nuvi 200 not do this. I am using the POI Loader from Garmin. When I open the Garmin drive, BOOM, there is the alert, it just will not play. Where have I gone wrong?

You need an mp3 player or

Convert it to a wave file.... There is a lot of info on the site. Do a search for sox

Ok, what you've posted is confusing, so let's try to sort it out.

Did you SET an alert using the Manual Mode of POI Loader when you loaded the Custom POIs to your nuvi?

Are you getting the default alert sound?

Your nuvi doesn't support MP3 files, so have you used WAV files for your Custom Alert sounds (presuming that's what you are trying to do), AND have you loaded the correct version of SOX.EXE to the correct folder on your computer?

I'm not sure what you mean by "When I open the Garmin drive, BOOM, there is the alert, ... ". You don't put the alerts in your Garmin drive (meaning the unit itself). You place them in the correct folder on your computer.

Have you properly named the alert sound file to be EXACTLY the same as the name of your Custom POI file except for the file extension?

HELP

i used the express mode and the manual mode. neither works for me.
i go to my computer, open the garmin (K)drive, my BP Gas Station Alert shows up but it will not play, even sitting in a BP parking lot.i have tried other alerts and none work. i even converted the BP to a wav and still nothing. i am beginning to think the nuvi 200 will not do these alerts.
what is a corect version of SOX.EXE?

Click on the link that aophiuchus posted above for details about SOX.EXE. You must have that file installed in the correct folder on your computer for the Custom Alert sounds to work.

However, you still haven't said whether you are getting the default alert sound which would indicate whether you have the alerts set up properly irrespective of the Custom Audio sounds.

It's important to understand how the proximity alerts work on Garmin auto units.

The alerts do NOT function as a radius, but rather they function as an "along the road/route" alert.

In order for the alerts (Custom or default) to sound a number of things must be true.

1. You must set an alert either through information in the file or via POI Loader being run in Manual Mode and an alert being manually entered.

2. Alerts must be enabled on your unit.

3. You must be traveling on the road on which the POI is located and traveling in the direction of the POI.

4. The POI must be sufficiently close to the road (typically 50 feet or less).

.
So, are you getting an alert with the default sound?

Make sure your BP gas

Make sure your BP gas station file have the EXACT same name. For example:

BP Stations.csv (or .gpx)
BP Stations.wav

and make sure both files are in the same folder. If you're still having trouble, let us know step by step what you are trying and we'll be able to help you quicker.

Also, the alert had to be loaded through POI Loader with your BP file. You can't load the BP file to the unit/SD card and then put the alert file on the unit/SD card.

If you look on your garmin drive, you shouldn't be able to see the audio file. When loaded through POI Loader, it becomes part of the poi.gpi file in the POI folder on the garmin drive.
