Favorites

I saw this subject touched on in another thread but need some clarification. Since my c550 will not create a route to follow when I have several stops to make I have been entering addresses and saving them to Favorites. I then follow successive entries to move through my schedule. Since they are listed in proximity to the current location I have an efficient route to follow. I read that I can create a POI in the GPX format and instead of loading it using the POI Loader copy it directly to the GPSr via my PC. The entries will then appear in Favorites. This allows me to save the different routes I use from time to time. I have a folder on my unit labeled GPX. I assume I put the file in there. Can I delete any old files so my Favorites will be empty when not using my route? Will this method work at all?

It works, but deleting all of your Favorites probably involves a reset and loss of all your other settings as well.

I assume deleting the GPX file will not delete them from Favorites? Also Will this GPX file that I copied to my unit overwrite the existing Favorites file or append it? My Favorites has the "Home" location listed which I assume is accessed when I select "Go Home"

You are correct in your assumption. Once in Favorites, you can either delete them one at a time, or do a reset. The current.gpx file contains all of the Favorites, but it is merely a copy of the true database. Deleting it will do nothing. Additional gpx files will append to the current Favorites. And, yes, that home location is the location to which the HOME button takes you.

If you have Mapsource on your PC, you can create a route or plot several waypoints. Save the file as a gpx file, then load it via poi loader.

That file will then show up as a custom poi. You can then "Go To" each point sequentially or in any order you may need to. Example, if you have six stops, A thru F, in Mapsource you plot A thru F in the order you need, create it as a route or multiple waypoints. After it's loaded into your C550, you "Go To" A, then "Go To" B if you get a call from C needing to reschedule later in the day, no problem, you "Go To" D, E, C, then F or whatever order you end up needing to go.

This way, you won't need to be messing around with your "Favorites"

You can also have a custom poi (or several) of your frequent routes/stops (waypoints)
