how to record routes
Hi I am new to this group and i noticed the post about a person interested in motorcycle routes. Is it possible to actually record a route using a poi where the users would be directed to go with the POI?
Thanks

Marine GPS
My son the boat owner, make that NEW boat owner as of last summer, knows he needs and wants a (marine) gps unit, but I'm trying to help him understand that he can't make do with a cheapie handheld. He travels locally enough to justify one for his vehicle too actually, if there is a unit which could do double-duty simply via loading more maps. Any suggestions out there for him? (he doesn't have time to come to any forums but I do, so I'll be his intermediate guy here!).

Mark topics as read
I've just added a new feature that lets you mark all topics as read. You can see a link to the new feature by clicking on "discussion" in the top menu.
If you're in a specific forum, it will mark all posts for that forum. If you're at the main discussion page (that shows all forums), it will mark all topics in all forums.

Post your GPS names
I thought that it would be cool to see what names people have given their GPS units and maybe why you named it such.
I named mine Sophia. I did this because there is a dumb movie called "How to lose a guy in 10 days" and in it the girl names the guys penis "Princess Sophia" and I thought that by giving it that name you emasculate this man...well the traditional Joke about man is that he always feel emasculated about asking for directions and well I ask the GPS unit for directions all the time. You get the idea =)

GPX to POI or POI to GPX Software
GPXtoPOI release notes as of 4/23/06
This program converts from GPX format to CSV format or vice versa. You can create waypoints in MapSource and then convert them to POI (CSV) files for download or sharing with others.
You can also convert POI (CSV) files that others have created, and then edit them in MapSource. Now that the Garmin POI loader supports GPX files, GPXtoPOI's most important role is CSV to GPX conversion.

GPS is great when the car runs.
Its not such a great feeling when you're looking at and expensive GPS unit on your dash, useless b/c your car is dead as a doornail. But alas, it redeems its worth when I get the number to the nearest towing service and I don't have to throw money out the window by calling 411. I love you Garmin C330. I think I shall name you Mary Poppins.

Rant: snow...
6.5" and 1 to 3 more on the way before it quits. GPS units are nice, but they can't shovel snow
And I suppose, the traffic/road conditions alert function would be nice too - but, the nearest participating radio station is 2 hours North of me. Oh well. Stay home, drink coffee, & surf the 'net as long as the power holds out...which it should, as it has been a long time since we've had an outage

just saying hello
Hi Gang!
Nope I haven't forgotten about this great place I have been busy with other things. One thing that many here would enjoy and that is geocaching. All things gps fascinate me and many others here. Plus I hope to proficient with gps so I can navigate safely through wooded areas as well. Eventually I want to get a gps that I can use for both my motorcycle and also geocaching and hiking. This will not replace my i3 because I don't think one unit will do ALL things well. JM and Maryann are doing a bang-up job here as usual and I noticed many who were rather "green" in technological sense have learned so much here. That's something to be proud about. It's the friendly nature of this site that nurtures people afraid of technology and allows them to embrace it. In my travels I have found a few from this forum at the geocaching.com forum. Notably Fratermus and he certainly is no slouch with technical things. So many contribute to the greater cause! There is no doubt in my mind that poi factory is the #1 USA site for automotive navigation. I thought maybe we should delve into handhelds but that would be a mistake except for the technical part. Enough rambling for now.

How to Find
If you have, or know the Longitude/Latitude, is there a website that lets you enter them and find that location on a map, without using a GPS? Dumb question??

Fix for New Discussion Topic Bug
The unread posts feature was not showing new discussion topics unless they had at least 1 reply. I've just installed a fix for this bug.
The new page looks a little different than the old one but works basically the same way. Any posts from the last two weeks that you haven't read will show on the list.
Now that the bug is fixed, I'm planning to add some new features like "mark all as read".

Love "Unread Posts" Option, but..
Is there anyway to mark all the UNREAD posts to READ so that I can start with a clean slate? In other words, I am still a relative newbie to the site but have 16 pages of UNREAD posts to read. Would be nice to start right now and just see the latest users inputs rather than those back when the site just opened.
Finally, I am usually most interested in the General Discussion and Garmin areas. Is there a way to just see the UNREAD posts in that certain areas rather than all areas?

Password
I constantly having trouble putting in my password in my Nuvi660, most of time it takes a two or three passes before it takes.. to the point I finally disable the password.. Anyone else have this problem with their Nuvi.
NickJr

Phone Icon not enabled for POI
I know custom POI's with phone numbers are unable to dial out except when saved as "Favorites" then the icon is enabled. I have been talking with Garmin Tech Support in their Software division about this issue. They are currently looking in resolving this issue and I will be notified (hopefully) by email when a solution comes available.
