Geocaching

Just wondering, Does anyone here do Geocaching with there gps systems?

Geocaching is a treasure hunting game that is big. I have a cobra Handheld and tried to use it but was not to detaled.

I can see a garmin doing this with the recharable batteries that last 8 hrs.

Just wondering if anyone have heard of these or did them..

In fact, that would be a great poi to have! lol

Yes

There are many people who geocache here. If you search geocahing on this site, you will get about 4 pages of posts.

I'm not sure how long you have been geocaching for but from my experience, accuracy, although helpful, is not really necessary. I personally use my Sony Ericsson P910 mobile phone which has TomTom GPS navigator and SmartcomGPS installed in it with a TomTom bluetooth external GPS reciever and it is not 100% accurate (gets me within 10 feet most of the time). Also the coordinates posted on the website (I go to geocaching.com) may not be accurate to begin with. Sometimes I follow the GPS coordinates and it takes me straight to the cache but most of the time it doesn't and I have to physically search for the cache. Basically what I am trying to say is, the GPS gets you 90% there and the rest you physically search.

A geocaching POI would be great but that would be alot of work due to the fact that there are so many geocaches. I enter all the ones I plan to find in my GPS before a day of geocaching so if any one wants to start one, I can contribute.

I go geocaching when I can and I enjoy it. I create my own poi's before I leave to use on my i3 and then use my explorist 200 to find the cache. The tricky part is converting the coordinates for navigation. I plan on upgrading to a mapping handheld so I can navigate and geocache with the same handheld.
