Garmin talk

Hello all,

I have 2 2797LMT's for rally GPS's. Two years ago they seemed to work fine and connect reliably to my Macbook air 13 running OS X El capitan.

I recently charged and fired them up hoping to update maps so I updated my primary GPS and the update had some hiccups (claimed to be out of space) but after restarting a few times it cleared up and appears to have updated.

It's that time again, where I have to replace my Garmin Unit. Currently have a DriveAssist 50 and probably going to a DriveSmart 51 or 55. Is there a good way to migrate over data from one to the other?

Mainly I care about the POIs, my personal saved places, and my custom alerts. I know I can just reupload my POIs, but what about saved places?

Has anyone been able to find any differences between the DriveSmart 51 vs 55? It's time for me to buy a new GPS Unit and other than potentially new internals and newer hardware, I don't see the difference between the two. I tried using the compare tool on garmin's website, but found no difference at all.

I have loaded POI's with the BMP files on an SD card as per instructions, as far as I know. The icons will not show up, just a destination flag. I have renamed the files to be the same with the csv or bmp extensions. Tried 24x24 and 48x48.This is driving me crazy.

Must have changed something and don't know what but I now have a blue line on every road I've driven on. How do I remove this and stop it.

It appears that the Drive models have had updates in the past couple of days.

I don't own a Drive so I can't fire up Garmin Express to update anything but know many of you have Drives:

Someone new reopened (Map update 2018.20 ready to download) an old thread which has no more relevance now.

Can the powers to be not delete such a thread?

I can see certain threads having information still usable even if they are now a bit older.

Is there anyway to convert a .nvl file (on a pen drive) to a kmz or a gmx for a Garmin?
The file was for a Hertz Magellan "NeverLost" gps unit.
Have been told this is an exclusive Oracle based software for Hertz???

I have a new Garmin DriveSMart 51.

I find two things I do not like.

The Driver Alerts are very low volume, and I can barely hear them. I really like the alert that I am driving over the speed limit, but it is not very useful if I do not hear it.

I know this is a little out of the realm of interest for most, but for those of us that are RV-er's, it is a real issue.

Long time lurker first time poster. Purchased the 2019 Drivesmart 65 yesterday and spent today with it my vehicle. Here are some details about it that aren’t being advertised but that some on this board may find useful if deciding to buy.

I own a Nuvi67LM and I have recently updated to the 2020.10 mapping.
After this map update, I have noticed that the unit shows extremely inaccurate speed for roughly 10 seconds when first locking the GPS signal.

I set up a trip with trip planner on my Garmin Drive 61LMT-S and always use coordinates for my stops and of course Garmin enters the stop location as "Coordinates" I need to rename that coordinate so I know what is coming next while driving like "Pilot Gas" instead of "Coordinates". Was very simple on my Garmin 2589LMT but can not seem to figure out this new one?

I drive A LOT and have noticed several places on interstates where my Garmin Drive 6 says the speed limit is only 16 mph. Anyone else see that? Also, there's a grey exclamation point in the corner that, when i tap on it, there's 2 entries that just say "16 mph". When I tap on either, there's an entry for a POI but I can't clear either of them. Anyone else have this happen?

I went to Garmin Map Installer. It told me that there was a new update NA 2019.20 from NA 2019.10 for my DriveSmart 5LMT. When I checked Garmin Express it told me there was a new version NA 2020.10. Does Garmin Map Updater lag with the releases or does each version have to be installed to get to the newest version? I do not have enough space on Drive C to use Garmin Express.

Something curious happened.

So after going to CES, I noticed that Mass Storage Mode has been renamed to USB Ethernet. I haven't upgraded since my 3490 so I was looking for confirmation that USB Ethernet is in fact Mass Storage Mode. I can only assume that it is but just wanted to confirm.

The options were:

MTP Auto Detect
USB Ethernet
USB Ethernet Single Session

I've downloaded the user manual, followed the directions in the manual as well as the directions in the GPS itself but am not getting anywhere.
In a current created route I'm finding it impossible to add a saved location and add it somewhere in a route. Anyone else experience that too? Could it be the software update I had to install before I could update to the 2010.10 map.
