nuvi 350 and WAAS

Only had this about a week and loving it. I did notice that WAAS was turned off by default. Is there some reason for this? I know with the older units, having WAAS enabled takes a little more CPU time and can make calculations much slower. With this new nuvi I figured the extra CPU hit would be trivial.

So, is there any reason to disable WAAS when navigating city roads with this model?

New Nuvi announced

Hey what do you all think of this?

http://www.garmin.com/products/nuvi680/

I think it's pretty cool but I could live without the MSN Direct thing. It is nice that they are throwing in the service for one year with the purchase of the unit. After that I wouldn't pay for that.I my opinion it's not worth the monthly cost.

CityNavigator NT v8 on Streetpilot C530 vs DVD

Found differences between the DVD and the maps inside my GPS (Streetpilot c530).
I requested the DVD to load waypoints back and forth between my computer and GPS. As others have experienced, they shipped the DVD at no charge (tech support said he wished they had included them with the units as they get many calls for them). When I loaded the DVD onto my PC (updated mapsource to latest version over web), I looked for my home street(under find addresses). It wasn't there but it does show in the map. On my c530, it is shown and also can be found. Also, one of my local Wal-Marts is mispositioned on the GPS (about 1 mile East), but the DVD shows it correctly positioned.

Do I have the only C530 with drawing problems?

My C530 has some occasional drawing problems, which nobody at Garmin tech-support has ever heard of. I've posted a couple times here, and only one person had a similar experience, and for them it only happened once (also in Oregon).

Does everybody's C530 *always* update the map as they drive along, with no exceptions? Has anybody with a C530 ever spent enough time in Portland Oregon to drive all over town and see how the model performs?

Changing your Splash Screen on a Garmin c340

To All

The Garmin site offers a download called "ximage". This can be found on the "support and download' page.

On the Garmin c340 "ximage" allows one to download and change the splash screen. It also allows the download the current screen image, if one wanted to do a show-n-tell.

The help information says "ximage" can add waypoints, but that was not an option for the c340. Perhaps on some of the more advanced models one can add waypoints.

Start up screen on Nuvi 660

Is there a way to set the Garmin to default to the map page instead of the main menu when it boots up. I like having the moving map each time I turn on the car, but get annoyed with having to select View Map each time I turn on the car and the GPS turns on.

Garmin c530

Hey everyone,

After a long drawn out research project to find the GPS for me I decided on the Garmin c530. Other notable mentions go to the Garmin c330, c340, c550 and others. The c530 was best for my budget - bought it at The Source for $429.00 Canadian (on sale) - my wife is already amazed at what it can do. She hates driving in unknown territory and I have to give her directions all the time. So now she can take this with her and never get lost....I hope!

Traveling to the Dominican...

Will my NUVI 660 work in Punta Cana? Can I use it on the plane via WAAS? Thanks.

Tinkering with GPS while driving

This is a dangerous practice but I always find myself tinkering with the GPS unit while driving (ie clicking on the MP3 player and adjusting volume, checking the trip computer or even zooming out on the map).

Anyone else do this? I need to quit doing that.

Nuvi 350 question (startup time)

I recently started using a Nuvi 350. When I first started the unit up it acquired it's location within 30 seconds. I was very impressed considering I was sitting in my office. I used it for a couple of days and decided to register it and check for updates. I updated to 4.3 software and since then have had to wait nearly two minutes or more almost every time I power the unit up. Doesn't matter if I'm sitting still or moving. There is no rhyme or reason to when it takes that long either. Sometimes it's less than 10 seconds, most times it's closer to 2 minutes.

Garmin C330 and long trip planning

I have bought Garmin C330 recently. I am wondering if I can plan a long trip (about 35 hours of drive time) in c330. I will appreciate your tips on how to do it.

Thanks in advance.

C-340 questions

Hi everyone,
I have a Garmin C340 Streetpilot. I have used Mapsource to create speed alerts at certain locations with a proximity distance. This works fine and I can easily create these points of interest using Mapsource and then POI Uploader to load them into my C340.

I still have a couple of questions though:

1. How does one utilize a memory card inserted into the slot on the unit?

Garmin Road Colors?

Any idea what the various road colors stand for? I have a Nuvi 660 and their must be a reason for the various colors.

Novice Nuvi 360 question...

I'm a new 360 owner and after one day I love it, but am a little confused. I have 3 questions, regarding if I bought the right unit for me. Any and all input will be appreciated.

1) The 350 online manual says that unit has a "Find Better Route" feature. The more expensive 360 appears not to have this. Is it there and I'm just not finding it? It seems like this would be a great feature for GPS.

c550

I just got c550 could someone explain what is so good about it, my friend had 330 and it looks the same
Thanks

c550 sd card

I was wondering what size of sd card should I buy, and is there a size limit or any recommendations for this unit.

found a good case for the nuvi 350

I found a pretty good "hard sided" case for the Nuvi 350 at Target today. It isn't metal-like hard, but hard enough -- plus, it is lined on the inside with thick peices of foam on either side. The 350 fits in here PERFECTLY, but only if I take it out of it's original leather case. It seems pretty protected in there. If anyone is interested, you can find it at the target website here:

Missing POI info?

I recently downloaded several custom POI points, and cannot seem to locate them on my Nuvi 660 after they are downloaded. The Red Light and Speed Trap POI's show in the Custom POI section of the Extra's icon, but I cannot seem to locate the auto dealers and stores that I downloaded. Are these automatically placed in the pre-defined garmin folders under Food/Lodging?

Any help would be appreciated.

c530 strange behavior on I205 in Portland

I'm in Portland, Oregon this weekend. The c530 has been great, except for a several mile stretch of I205, which runs North/South through a section of the southeast part of town.

In this area, the map refuses to update. It's almost like the map freezes up. I tried zooming in and out, which made the map go away entirely, replaced by a white screen that says "Drawing...".

Meanwhile, the voice directions, and the green bar along the top of the screen remain accurate. So the c530 definitely knows exactly where it is.

Trouble with Alerts

Set one to 500 feet the other day just to test the feature, and it worked at maybe 200 ft. So, based on that, set an entire file to alert at 5000 ft using POILoader, and none worked at all. Anybody know anything about MapSource, maybe that's what I need to make this entire file alert like it should? And I understood that alerts can be set for up to 38 miles, read that somewhere, but in POILoader my only option appears to be setting the alert distance in feet only.
